HUGHES, Ruth Virginia, 80, died Thursday, September 25, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Edgar and Hattie Dinkins Barker. Ruth was a member of Kingsland Baptist Church and a devout Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Hughes; brothers, Harold Barker and Denny Barker. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Anne Shorter and husband, Paul, of Littleton, N.C., Rebecca Jayne Davis of Dillwyn, Va.; grandchildren, Benny Bishop of Ashland, Va., Candy White and husband, David, of Henrico, Va., Paul Shorter Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., Rebecca Winn and husband, Raymond, of Dillwyn, Va.; great-grandchildren, Micah and Keith Winn, Sydney White, Tyler and Justin Bishop; sisters, Judy Walker of Boonville, N.C., and Anna Lee Hardy and husband, Roger, of Dobson, N.C.; sister-in-law, Audrey Barker of Chesterfield, Va.; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Monday, September 29, 2008 in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Amelia, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kingsland Baptist Church, 8801 Perrymont Rd., Richmond, Va. 23237.
