James Mathews Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4, 2008.
MATHEWS, James Melvin "Jimmy," age 71, passed Tuesday, September 30, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Mathews; sons, Mike and Roger Mathews; stepsons, Dwayne, Bryan, and Kelly Campbell; stepdaughter, Bonnie Clark; sister, Rose Teefey; and brother, L.J. Mathews; nine grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. "Jimmy," a retired truck driver, found peace on this day as the Lord lighted the road to heaven. He will be missed and his memories will last forever. Thanks for all the prayers and support. Special thanks to George Stanley, a forever friend for being there to comfort him. "Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened." - Matthew 7:7,8 In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society in remembrance of "Jimmy."

Jimmy was a good man that I really enjoyed spending time with. He was a joy to be with and had been my dad since the passing of my father. He was a giving person that I will miss very much and he can't be replaced. I hope he knew how much he meant to everyone.

We will miss Mr Mathews. The trucking world is at a true loss for he was a real road king. I enjoyed our conversations together and his neat stories of his travels. May he rest in peace. God bless the family and you have our prayers.
