Owen Long Obituary

LONG, Owen B., 86, of Richmond, formerly of Covington and Salem, died on October 10, 2008. He was the son of the late Arthur R. and Victoria Y. Long of Salem and Hot Springs. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Arline McCoy Long; his daughters, Mary Sue Long of Richmond and Judy L. Haggett of Perryville, Md.; grandson, Robert Michael Mays and his wife, Jennifer; great-grandson, Colin Michael Mays of Havre de Grace, Md.; sisters, Mrs. Glenna Lipes of Covington and Mrs. Dorothy May of Hot Springs; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Army Reserve in Covington for about seven years before moving to Henrico County in 1952. He worked in Automotive Parts in Covington, Richmond and Petersburg. He was an active member in Lakeside United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school treasurer for 23 years, and a supporting member of the American Legion. He was a very loving husband and father and will be missed. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 13, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond, where services will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at 1 p.m. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Community Care, 10128 W. Broad St. Suite J, Glen Allen, Va. 23060, Lakeside Rescue Squad or your favorite charity.

Arline & Mary, Just a note to let you know that you are in our prayers and have our sympathy at this time. Sorry we can't be there in person, but we are in spirit. The write up was very good. Just continue to hold to God's unchanging hand and call if there is any thing that we can do. Love you all very much. I know that you both will miss him very much in your own way, but find comfort in that he is now with our Lord and has a perfect body. Joyce, Bill & Mike Fisher
