Bernard’s unexpected passing was shocking although death is a reality of life. He was an intelligent, analytical, quick-witted and capricious person who was a dapper dresser and a debonair man. Bernard has left indelible impressions as he traveled his path in this world. The moments we shared were filled with stimulating conversations about philosophy, theology, sociology, meteorology and “Bernardology.” Oh, yeah, to interact with and to know him was to be introduced to his 2 basic rules of modus operandi. He would say, “See rule number 1. If you forget rule number one, see rule number 2 which refers you to rule number 1.”
There were the numerous times he would proudly decree, “You must not know who I am. I am Rev. Dr. B.S. Giles, Sr.’s son.” Bernard’s proclamation was to set the foundation for his ensuing viewpoints on any and all subjects that would evoke humor, contemplation or perhaps frustration. His refreshing conversations required one to be at their best in articulating concepts and precepts because he relished the opportunity to debate.
The man with fire in his belly and a zest for living has lived, loved and left this world as he submitted to the will of God for whom he sang. His laughter and wisdom is a treasure that will linger in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. My friend who had such a competitive quality rests now with the Almighty who gave him life and who has reclaimed it. His presence and pontification about life will be missed but I rejoice in having had the pleasure of knowing him.
Family, may your days be filled with fond memories of Bernard who was known to march to his own drum beat. Let the deposits he made into your lives and the deposits you made into his bring you peace and joy to celebrate his life as you continue to march to your own drum beat.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost be with you!

To the Giles family,
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Bernard. We have known him for so many years. To his beautiful children, Shaunda, Rashaad & Brandy hold on to those special memories and hold them close to your hearts because your dad was truly a loving person. Always know that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal and we know that weeping may endure for a night but Joy will surely come in the morning. Bernard is safe now and resting in the arms of his heavenly father along with his mother and Rev. Giles.....he is at peace! Take care and know we will always be one phone call away. We love you dearly!!!!!
Be Blessed,
Rudy & Ava Yates and the entire Burford Family.
