James Atkinson Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Oct. 29, 2008.
ATKINSON, James E. II, of Chesterfield, Virginia, left this life on Monday, October 27, 2008. Jim was born in West Virginia, and resided in Colorado and Virginia for the balance of his years. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force in Texas, New Hampshire and Germany. Jim was pleased to visit as many places as possible in those locales. Most recently, he was a valued associate of Walmart in Richmond. He completed his lifelong studies of history and politics with the attainment of both a B.A. in History and a B.S. in Political Science at Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2008. One highlight of his studies was the opportunity to attend a semester in a senior seminar conducted by former Virginia governor and current Richmond mayor, Douglas Wilder. His wife, Kathie; cherished daughters, Jamie and Mary; his beloved mother, Stella Atkinson; and cousins, Pat, Tommy and Stephen, survive Jim. Additionally Jim rejoiced in the love and friendship of Michael, Candace, Ashley and Justin. A memorial service is planned for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, at Walmsley United Methodist Church, 2950 Walmsley Blvd., Richmond, Va. 23234. Contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the Food Closet at Walmsley United Methodist Church, 2950 Walmsley Blvd., Richmond, Va. 23234.
