Mary Bull Shanks

SHANKS, Mary Bull, 88, formerly of Portsmouth, died October 29, 2008 in Newport News. Mrs. Shanks, a native of Greenville, S.C., was the widow of Richard T. Shanks Jr. and the daughter of the late William Thomas and Lillian Hampton Bull. She was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an accounts payable clerk. She was a member of the Richard Dale Woman's Club and Trinity Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, Va. Survivors include her son, Thomas L. Shanks and wife, Barbara, of Newport News and their daughter, Karen S. Lambert; and her daughter, Kaitlyn Elise Lambert, of Richmond, their son, Gregory T. Shanks and his wife, Helen Marie, and their children, Christopher Scott Zenyuk, Erin Nicole Shanks and Allison Leigh Shanks, all of Hampton; a daughter, Carol Ann Gibbs and her children, James A. Sitzler and Mary Elizabeth Sitzler, all of Richmond. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2008 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court St., Portsmouth, by the Rev. Sue Crommelin. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.
