Derrick, I never knew you but my sister in law was the other person involved in the accident that very tragic day. I'm sorry to you for what happned as well as to your family i'ts like what someone else said on here i guess god and the heavens needed another angel and from what i hear from people what a great angel you will be i ask that you watch out for friends and family while looking through the holes in the floor of heaven and for our family as well we are not only feeling the pain of hurts from the accident we are feeling your passing as well someone once told me you dont have to really know someone to feel there loss and tell now i never knew that to be true. I certainly feel your loss as well as millions of other emotions its hard for me to express. I'm so sorry it had to be this way if i could turn back time i would. As another also said this is not goodbye Yet "see you later bro" we will all be together again maybe not tommorow maybe not next week but very soon. To the family of Mr Derrick V Smith I extend my truly deepest heart felt apoligies on what happened that tragic morning and for the hurt you are feeling and to come. We all should listen to our creator and know that the pain will come to pass the mourning will fall short we will go on however there will allways be that void we will long to fill but never will be able to. And with that i leave you all Farewell my fallen friend Farewell.

I wanted to give my condolences to Derrick's family. I am one of Ashley's many sisters. She was driving the Diamante that was involved in the crash. She's torn up over Derrick's tragic death and the pain his family is going through. She wants the family to know her thoughts and prayers are with them. Ashley is in serious condition but will recover. Our family is praying for yours. God Bless you all.

We will never forget you Derrick, they way you made all of us laugh and the great memories that we have of you. And we know that you will always be here with us by or side. Maybe not in present, but in our hearts and in our thoughts. We will miss you greatly and only if we could go back in time. But we can't do that.So this is not a "goodbye", but only a "see you later." Because one day we will see you again. And what a great day that will be.

Mr and Mrs Smith:
your son touched alot of peoples lives. i really didn't know Derrick, but my son Adam did.Yesterday he told me of your loss and and spoke highly of Derrick and how much he will miss him as well as all of Derricks friends. I know how hard this will be but God will see the family through this.

derrick you were a great friend, and an amazing father. I'll never forget going on double dates with you and erica when we were pregnant and having us both have "afternoon" sickness at olive garden. I can't believe you're gone and I feel blessed to have known you and talked to you last week. You will live on through your loved ones and Cole. we are devistated but I guess God needed another angel. I know you're looking down on all of us. We miss you.
