GRUBBS, Vernon Thomas, of Mechanicsville, died November 8, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Mantlo and William Thomas Grubbs; and a grandson, William Taylor Hazelgrove. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Matilda; a daughter, Sharon Grubbs Hazelgrove and her husband, David; four grandsons, Christopher and his fiancee', Stephanie, Brandon and his wife, Krysi, Mark, and Dustin; four nephews, Benjamin Wood and his wife, Jean, Henry and his wife, Gloria, David and wife, Donna, and Stanley Bosher and his wife, Clara; three nieces, Audrey Tyler, Bessie Carter and her husband, David, and Frances Wood and her husband, Joseph. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and family friends. Vernon was a lifelong member and elder of Beulah Presbyterian Church. He served on the Church Cemetery Committee for many years, and was one of the original Hanover Tomato Farmers for over 70 years. The family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Beulah Presbyterian Church. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beulah Presbyterian Church or the East Hanover Rescue Squad.
