Bennett Dunnavant Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Dec. 4, 2008.
DUNNAVANT, Bennett Purnell, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C. Dunnavant and Nellie B. Dunnavant; and his brother, James A. Dunnavant. He is survived by his brother, Thomas A. Dunnavant and his wife, Patricia K. Dunnavant; sister-in-law, Barbara W. Dunnavant; two nieces, Julie A. Dunnavant and Cara Alexander; grandniece, Ainsley Elizabeth Alexander; and his faithful cat, Shadow. Bennett was born in Chesterfield County, Va., on May 27, 1952. Bennett was a lifelong resident of Chesterfield County except for the four years he served his country in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman. Bennett, known as "Ben" to his many close friends, had a love of music, movies, and a gift for writing beautiful poetry. Bennett was a Philip Morris retiree. As Bennett once wrote, "And, when the day arrives for us to part, when we move on as the wind, I will cherish those treasured times we had between us, my friends." A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, at 5:30 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, 1500 Courthouse Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
