HEIZER, Joan Ara Dalve', died at her home on December 1, 2008. She was born October 5, 1930 to Clarence L. Dalve' and Beatrice Churchwell Dalve' in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her father Clitz's civil engineering jobs took the family to many locations throughout her childhood, including Richmond, Cleveland, Myrtle Beach, Norfolk, Memphis and her favorite, Chincoteague. Joan graduated from Westhampton College in 1952, where she excelled in track and field. She married Marshall Brownlee Heizer on March 19, 1955 and helped build the house where she would live the rest of her life. Joan enjoyed being a member of Concord Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Besides being a homemaker, she worked as a secretary at Rochester Button Company and as a librarian at the McKenney Library. In her later years, her love of travel took her around the United States, to the Caribbean,and to Tahiti, Hawaii, New Zealand, Switzerland and many other parts of Europe. Joan is survived by two daughters, Dr. Marcia Heizer of Richmond and Wendy Gruendl and husband Bob, and their three children of Williamsburg; one son, David, and wife Sherri and their three children; and one great-granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Heizer Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the McKenney or Alberta Volunteer Fire and Rescue. Memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Concord Presbyterian Church in Rawlings. Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville is in charge of arrangements.
