George Kranitzky Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Dec. 9 to Dec. 10, 2008.
KRANITZKY, George J. Sr., 85, of Richmond, was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2008 after an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean; his parents, Alexander and Cecelia Kranitzky; his brothers, Joe, Charlie and Eck; his sisters, Marie, Katherine, Eleanor, Cecelia and Agnes; and his precious "baby girl," Bonnie Lynn. He is survived by his children, George, Debbie, Diane, Robin and Jeanie; his grandchildren, Nelia, Jason, Daniel, Alicia, Erin, Adam, Ian and Jack; his devoted sister, Marguerite Kranitzky Webb; and many other relatives and friends. Besides loving and caring for those closest to him, George was an avid tennis player and a lover of all sports. He enjoyed working in his shop and created many works of wonder. His generosity and kindness were well-known to all who knew him. The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where a memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American SIDS Institute, 509 Augusta Dr., Marietta, Ga. 30067. His family would like to thank the staff at Westport Health Care Center and in particular, Tammy, for their loving care. George is reunited with his wife, Jean, and his late family in Heaven and is now with God. He went in peace and will be missed by all who knew him. We love you, Daddy.

Dear Kranitsky Family: Your very dear father was my God-Father. I remember your Dad and family coming to my house EVERY Christmas, with out fail! I was so excited to see you all each year. I was so proud that MY God-Father was the only God-Parent that came to see any of us kids-ever! I always felt so special because of his caring and loving way with me. Even though I knew he had his own children, on Christmas I always felt like YOUR Dad was MY Dad. Please know that he is with God and he will always be with you. I have and will remember him on Christmas day forever!
Love, Ann Cabell Scruggs Davis

I worked with that wonderful man many years ago at Blue Cross Blue Shield...I adored his smile and personality and, of course, his jokes....He would make a point to stop at my desk every day to tell me at least 4 jokes and he would tease me because I would write them down so I would not forget them....What a sadness to lose such a man, but, what a gain for Heaven!!!...I sure will miss him!!!!

To the Kranitzky Family- I am so sorry to hear of your lost. I also worked with George at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. George shared lots of stories with us and was a wonderful and loving person. I know that you will all miss him terribly. I am sorry I won't be in town to attend the memorial service. Just know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

To the Kranitzky Family - I worked with your father at Blue Cross for many years and he and your mother were very special friends. We shared many wonderful times together at the Virginia Beach house on 71st street. The family was always the center of conversation and there was no doubt that each of you were greatly loved and made your parents very proud. I will fondly remember them both. My very deepest sympathy.
