Rachel G. Legge

LEGGE, Rachel G., 86, of Williamsburg, died Tuesday, December 9, 2008. She was the daughter of the late John Raymond and Martha Love Gee. She was a lifelong devoted and active Christa-delphian, and her faith was central to all aspects of her life. She was very instrumental in forming the Williamsburg Christadelphian Foundation and the Williamsburg Christadelphian Conference. Mrs. Legge worked for the Virginia State Agriculture Bureau in Richmond for 20 years before moving to Williamsburg in 1963 when she married Woodrow Legge. Together they owned and operated the Governor Spottswood Motel, a landmark on Richmond Road, for 60 years. She was the epitome of a southern lady, exuding grace, hospitality, and charm, making all her friends feel like family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Woodrow H. Legge; and a brother, John R. Gee Jr. She is survived by a brother, Malcolm Thomas Gee and wife, Jeanne, of Kenbridge, Va.; two nephews, John Richard Gee and wife, Sue, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and William Raymond Gee and wife, Brenda, of Wilkesboro, N.C.; two great-nieces, four great-great nieces, and a host of special friends throughout the country. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Williamsburg Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Friday only.
