SMITH, Sr. Elaine, 77, a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 58 years, died in Richmond, Va., Sunday, November 30, 2008. Sr. Elaine taught at Marymount Schools in Bogota and Medellin, Colombia, Barcelona, Spain; and Kingston, England. She was a Guidance Counselor at the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary, Manhattan, N.Y.; Mother Butler Memorial High School, Bronx, N.Y.; and the Academy of the Resurrection, Rye, N.Y. She served at Marymount School, Richmond, as Guidance Counselor, Assistant Principal and, from 1988 to 1993, as Principal. She was a Patient Advocate at St. Mary's Hospital, Richmond, and a Counselor with the Virginia Institute of Pastoral Counseling at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Richmond. Funeral services were held in Tarrytown, N.Y. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Richmond, on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her name may be made to the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, N.Y. 10591.

Sister Elaine was my prinicipal during high school. She was very firm but very caring about her students. I can remember her pride at pur ring ceremonies, NHS induction May Days and graduations. She will certainly be missed.
