It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Darrell E. Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He passed away on September 11, 2025 at his home with family, at the sassy age of 76. He has been fighting lung cancer and prostate cancer for four years. From the stories he has told me, he and his brothers kept their mom busy. He was born and raised in Rochelle, Illinois. He received his GED prior to enlisting in the Army and going to Vietnam for a year. He also served in the National Guard until 2011.

Darrell is survived by two brothers; five children; eleven grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He is in Heaven now with his wife, Nancy Smith (32 years with Darrell), who we lost in 2013; and his youngest daughter, Stephanie, who was taken too soon.

Darrell was a huge fan of any and all western shows, watching Swamp People, the old game shows, picking on his grandchildren, making someone laugh everyday no matter how bad he was feeling, and one of his favorite thing to say to me is "I can't leave yet cause I haven't agitated you enough."

He will be greatly missed especially because of his selflessness, being full of smiles and his many jokes.

Darrell's graveside service will be held at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery at 1:00PM, Wednesday, September 24, 2025. We will be doing a Celebration of Life gathering after the services.
