SNEAD, Betsy Haynie, surrendered her four-year battle with breast cancer on Monday evening while staying with her daughter in Charleston, S.C. She leaves behind her husband of 33 years, James Daniel Snead; daughter, Marie Lockett Snead and future son-in-law, Christopher John Hoyle. Betsy has been a longtime resident of Urbanna, Virginia. She gave her service as a radiology technician to Richmond Memorial Hospital, Lee Davis Medical Center, Urbanna Family Practice and Henrico Doctors' Hospital. Her dedication to service was profound, volunteering even during her treatment. She was an active member of Urbanna Baptist Church, where a memorial will be held Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (today) at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Saluda. She is survived by brothers, Don Haynie and Tom Hamlin; and sister, Peggy Wilson. She was a loving and caring aunt to nieces, Michelle Giese, Kim Robinson and Bonnie Woods. She was also admired by nephews, Richard Haynie, Todd Wilson and Lawrence Snead. She will be remembered as a woman of strong faith, positive spirit and driving will to help others. Her spirit will carry on through all those that know and loved her. In lieu of gifts, donations can be made to the Christopher Desch foundation. P.O. Box 8467, Richmond, Virginia 23226.
