John Quick Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Feb. 1 to Feb. 3, 2009.
QUICK, John James Jr., 75, of Richmond, Va., passed away January 30, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His father, John James Quick Sr. and his mother, Elizabeth Wiltshire Quick, preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Judith D. Quick; his daughter, Deborah L. Trinite; grandson, Brayden E. Byrd, both of Midlothian, Va.; his son, William C. "Chris" Quick; daughter-in-law, Charlotte S. Quick; granddaughters, Savannah C. Quick and Ashley M. Quick, all of Richmond, Va.; and cousins, Willa Mae Bowman and Betty Jo Moore of Bumpass, Va.; as well as many other cousins. John was a graduate of John Marshall High School. He retired from Media General, Inc. in 1992 after 44 years of loyal service. Not one to be still in retirement, he moved on to a second career of 13 years as a Marshall Starter with The Country Club of Virginia, where he made many treasured and lasting friendships. John was an avid golfer, who worked with junior golfers at Oak Hill Golf Course, and collaborated to create their first Junior Golf Program. He loved music, and was a charismatic dancer whose dance card was always full. John's sharp wit and infectious humor engaged all those he met, and brightened any room he entered. Loved and greatly missed, we will hold our memories of you close in our hearts until we see you again. Godspeed, "JJ"/"Dad"/"Big Daddy"/"Big Pa." We love you. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at 2 p.m at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the following organizations First Tee of Richmond and Chesterfield, the American Cancer Society, the National Kidney Foundation, or the American Heart Association. Condolences may be made at mem.com.

When I. went out for basketball at JMHS as a freshman, two seniors, who were there to help you, & not there to try to intimidateyou, were Vance Long & Johnny Quick. Iwill always remember Johnny's infectious smile.

Daddy,
It's so hard to believe that you're gone from us. You fought the good fight, and I know you were tired. The pain is finally gone and I hope you are playing golf with your buddies who went before you. I know you're watching over me, Mom, Chris, and the grandkids and that your love will always be in our hearts--especially your girl, Mom--she misses you so much. But, we'll take care of her, so don't worry.

It won't be the same here without your laugh and your jokes and your smile. I treasure all the memories of the good times we've had through the years--you are the reason I love music and love to dance.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I had one of the most awesome Dads that God could have blessed me with, and I am proud to be your daughter. I love you and miss you so.

Judy,

I am so sorry to read about J.J. He was one of my "special" friends among the marshalls at CCV. He always had a smile and something good to say. We will miss him very much. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

I 'm sorry to have to use the email to express my condolences but I am currently in Florida and won't be back until next week.
