Diana Rimington Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Feb. 1, 2009.
RIMINGTON, Diana Elizabeth, of Richmond, Va., passed away January 21, 2009 after a courageous battle with breast cancer which progressed into bone cancer. "Didi" as she was known to family and friends, was born in Miami, Fla., on October 13, 1951. She graduated from Palmetto High School and proudly worked for "Burdines, The Florida Store" for 30 rewarding years. In 1999, Diana left her home in Miami Shores and position as Corporate Security Administrator to move to her beloved Richmond, where she became an Instructional Aide for Henrico County Schools. She later enjoyed her part-time position as telephone receptionist for Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists. Richmond became a wonderful home to Diana and her children where she enjoyed the loyalty and love of a close group of dear friends. Diana was preceded in death by her mother and father, Diana and Dennis Murphy Jr. of Miami; as well as grandparents, Margaret and Finton Irwin of Miami Shores, Eileen and Dennis Murphy Sr. of Coral Gables, and Evelyn and Jim Epting of Miami. Diana is survived by her devoted children, who provided such great comfort and love, Colleen (William) Wray, Caulin Rimington and Savannah Rimington, all of Richmond. Didi's close-knit family includes sisters, Denise Bacallao, Dori Heilmann, Dede (Barry) David; and brother, Dennis Murphy III; stepmother, Marion Bundy; as well as several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. We will miss her positive outlook and adventurous sense of life. Diana was a vibrant and reassuring Mother, Sister, Relative and Dear Friend to all who had the pleasure to know this inspirational, determined lady.

I was so sorry to hear about your lost. Diana and I knew each other from Burdines. She sometimes worked with me in my cartering business. She always wore a smile and was so fun of life. She will be missed.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Didi personally, but I do have the pleasure of knowing each of her sisters. And through them, I knew of Didi's personal fight and the strength and character in which she chose to fight with. I know of her strength and courage and yet her positive outlook on life too.
My heart, thoughts and prayer's are with each of Didi's children and all of the Murphy sisters and their respective families. May the happy memories of Didi, quickly bring each of you , comfort.
Please know a contribution in celebration of Didi's life will be made in her honor, to the American Cancer Society.
