John McCarty Obituary

McCARTY, John E. "Jack," 77, of Richmond, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, James P. and Catherine Rourke McCarty; and a daughter, Anne Marie. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Ranus McCarty; one son, Dr. John M. and his wife, Amity; six grandchildren, Brenna, Claire, Morgan, Sean, Ara, Michael; two brothers-in-law, Walter J. Ranus of Plymouth, Mich., and Richard R. Ranus of Erie, Pa.; several nieces and a nephew. Jack was born in Erie, Pa., attended Cathedral Prep, and graduated as salutatorian from Gannon University. He served in the military and was a part-time instructor at Indiana-Purdue University. He retired from a career as a Director of Management Information Systems in Pennsylvania, Indiana and Connecticut. He had been a Richmond resident since 1999. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, February 5, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Road, Richmond, Va., followed by a reception at the church. Interment will be on Monday, February 9, in Trinity Cemetery, Erie, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carmelite Monastery, 510 East Gore St., Erie, Pa. 16509, or to the VCU Health System's Bone Marrow Transplant Program, in care of Kim Bevan, 1300 E. Marshall St., Richmond, Va. 23298-0157.

Elaine & family,
I just received the Erie paper with the news of Jack's death. You have my deepest sympathy. I remember being at your your wedding with my parents, when Kay was one of your attendants.
