Edith James White

WHITE, Edith James, 83, widow of J. Franklin White and a resident of Waverly, died Saturday, February 28, 2009 in Waverly. Born in Surry County on October 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late J. Hayden and Grace Lane James. She was a member of the Waverly Congregational Christian Church and had served as the Historian of the church until three years ago. She was a member of the General William Mahone Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Red Hat Social Society. She is survived by a sister, Thelma J. Edwards of Hopewell; a brother, Joseph H. James Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Raleigh, N.C.; several nieces and nephews, and her devoted caregivers. She was predeceased by a brother, H. Lane James of Dendron. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, 2 p.m. in Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial will follow in Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, the day of the service, from 1 to 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Congregational Christian Church, 34299 Walnut Hill Rd., Waverly, Va. 23890 or the Waverly Rescue Squad, P.O.
