When we met you guys in 1985, you instantly became friends whom we loved being with. The both of you HAVE that certain something that causes anyone you meet to smile and feel right at home. Just like others, the news hit VERY hard and has been difficult to handle. While driving home the other day with both of you on my mine, Al Green came on singing "For The Good Times" and I felt better. To paraphrase him:
Don't look so sad, we know it's over. But life goes on and this world keeps on turning. Lets just be glad we had this time to spend together. FOR THE GOOD TIMES, FOR THE GOOD TIMES.

Earl,
God has called Shirley home for rest and reward. Her work here is done. Although we would have held on to her much longer, God always knows best. God also decided that your work here is not yet finished. As you grieve your loss, know that your life will be filled with a heavenly purpose that will ultimately diminish your grief. Blessings to Patrick, Joseph and the entire Ricks family.

Dear Earl,
My thought and prayers have been for you and your family as you deal with this tragedy. Shirley was very special as we shared some great times in the old days. We worked together in the early days of the State Dept. You might remember me as Bledsoe, but I am now Dean. Delighted to know you are recovering. God bless you and your family. Love, Edna Allen Dean.

To Earl, Joseph, Patrick, and extended family - Shirley was a perfect example of grace. I admired her style and her sweet spirit. It was very clear when we met that her life was devoted to the Lord, her family, and the well-being of others. I feel blessed to have crossed paths with your family during our children's Boy Scout days. You were such devoted parents with very special children. Please do not weep long or focus on her passing, but rather remember the joy she brought to you during her life...and know that you will meet again. God bless you.

Shirley's fondness for life and compassion for her work will be remembered.
Keep God first as you move on with your life and He will get you through.

To Joe and Patrick:
Your mom was such a role model mom, whose pure existence was centered around the two of you.
As your teacher at RCHS, she was always there propping the two of you up, as you faced your academic and life growing challenges.
She saw each of you through it and adored you for your distinct uniqueness.
You were the world to her, Joe and Patrick - remember that!
Now, you must pass on to your children and to their children who Shirley Glover Ricks was and the impact that she made in your lives and to the world. They must never forget!
Her strength and love now passes to you. Take all that she taught you, go forward and have her existence shine through you.
Love you both.
