TEBBS, Frances Turpin Wagener, 84, of Earlysville, Va., died Wednesday, August 5, 2009, of complications following surgery in Charlottesville, Va. Born in 1925 in Richmond, Va., she was the daughter of the late Hunter Temple and Wortley Dickerson Wagener. A 1946 graduate of Mary Baldwin College, she became part of the Washington & Lee University community as housemother at Kappa Alpha, while her husband attended law school there. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she and her husband retired to Vero Beach, Florida, where she became a passionate tennis player, a piano teacher, and an accomplished artist. Her work, exhibited in Vero Beach and Charlottesville now adorns her children's homes. Predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Charles Binns Tebbs III, she is survived by a son, Charles Binns Tebbs IV of Canton, Conn.; two daughters, Hetty Tebbs Hoyt of Salem, Va. and Catherine Elizabeth Tebbs of Earlysville, Va.; a sister, Molly Wagener Rice of Lexington, S.C.; two brothers, Hunter T. Wagener Jr. of Irvington, Va., and Henry Dickerson Wagener of Portland, Maine; three grandchildren, Heather Lee Tebbs of Canton, Conn., Alexander Binns Hoyt of Woodberry Forest, Va., and Gunther Harris Hoyt of Salem, Va.; daughter-in-law, Sandra Armstrong Tebbs; son-in-law, Gunther A. Hoyt; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Sallie. Inurnment took place at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, Va. on Monday, August 10, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Heart Association or a favorite charity. Arrangements by Hill & Wood Funeral Service, Charlottesville, Virginia.
