ALVIS, Barbara C., 63, of Hopewell, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Wilmore W. Alvis Sr.; two daughters, Joanna Akers and husband, Paul, of Stony Creek, and Theresa Fields of Glade Springs, Va.; son, Wilmore "Buddy" Alvis Jr. of Steubenville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Bobbijo Banes, Christopher Alvis, Cheyenne Alvis and Steven Hall; two brothers, Ed Courtright and wife, Dixie, of Murfreesboro, N.C., and Chuck Courtright Jr. of Iowa; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2009, at High Hills Memorial Cemetery in Jarratt. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226. Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt, Virginia is in charge of arrangements.

I'm so sorry for your loss, she will truely be missed by everyone that knew her. I wish I could be there with you at the difficult time. I will miss calling her Momma. But she is in heaven with my Mom and they are drinking Pepsi & Dr. Pepper looking down on all of us and saying that they some great kids that both of us had.
