Recently a former Professor and friend, Jim Snyder, PhD, Chief of the Division of Microbiology, at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, asked about Jerry. I told him that he had passed away but, didn't realize it is now coming upon 7 years that this Virginia Gentleman has left us. Jerry and I trained together in AP-CP Pathology Residency. He was a year or two behind me. He showed interest in Laboratory Medicine early in his Residency and was also a good Microscopist. He had a knack for photomicrography winning an award from the ASCP for his work. His award winning photomicrograph appeared on the cover of Laboratory Medicine in the early 1980s. He was a Gentleman true and foremost and loved delving into laboratory topics in his CP rotations. I am proud he found his niche in Laboratory Hematology and did so well in his short-lived career. I believe he had a fondness and was somewhat mentored by Marie Keeling, MD who had the same training background as Jerry including Blood Bank specialization and was a Medical Technologist in her initial introduction to the Laboratory. Jerry and Marie were indeed a rare breed in Medicine and both being Coagulation Specialists. I was saddened to learn of his death. These two unsung Giants in the Coagulation field of Medicine are sorely missed. Jerry had that special Virginia Southern Gentlemanly charm about him and was always dapper. He was a great guy. I am privileged to have known such a magnificent Man of Medicine.

I have just found out that Jerry has passed on and I am so surprised and sad- he was too young and healthy! I knew he was ill but I thought he was going to recover. He was so nice, so smart, and he will be greatly missed. My sincere condolences to his family.

There are three things I will always remember about Dr. Lefkowitz. The gratitude I have for him teaching me coagulation as a first year resident, how much pleasure he got in asking about what food was being served at our clinical pathology thursday conferences(despite being the same sandwiches every week), and his pausing of our sign out one day in order for us to run down to the hospital gift shop for chocolates. He was a smart, friendly, and certainly unique man, and he will be missed greatly.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Lefkowtiz while at NYPH. I learned a lot about coagulation from him but also enjoyed discussing our various memories of Louisville. He will be missed at NYPH. My sympathies go out to his friends and family.

In the relatively short time that we knew each other at Weill Cornell, Jerry and I became friends. He was a sweet, smart, sensitive, and kind person. His outlook during his illness will be long remembered by me as a touching example of courage and grace. I so sincerely wish he could have been with us much, much longer.

I was so saddened to learn of Jerry's passing. I became friends with Jerry while he was in Louisville and would say we remained close over the years. I knew him and he me, and I can't say that about many people. I'll definitely miss him.

When I heard of Dr. Lefkowitz's passing, I was shocked. I had spoken with him within the last month or two and he was so positive about his recovery, and was looking forward to returning to work and becoming the Chair of the Coagulation Resource Committee.
He was a warm, friendly person and I will miss his expertise and friendship.

I have been checking this site daily and I just wanted to thank everyone for your kind words about my uncle. It has been really comforting for myself and my family to be able to sit together to read all of the nice things you have all said. I still cannot believe he is gone, he is going to be missed dearly.

I went to high school in Richmond with Jerry. I don't think I have seen Jerry in 20 or more years; even so, the news still came as a shock. I was transported in my mind back to high school and key club events; work on "The Declaration", the school literary magazine; and hebrew high school. I remember a smart, tall, sweet person (with no beard and a head of dark hair) who was very talented.
My condolences to Jerry's partner and the Lefkowitz family.
May his memory be a blessing

I worked with Jerry Lefkowitz at the University of Colorado Hospital He was a knowledgeable, funny, very kind individual. He never talked down to anyone when answering questions, but seemed to enjoy that person's interest, whether it was a coagulation topic, photography, pets, gardening, houses, etc. It was a real pleasure to have worked for him. My sympathies to his family and friends. He will continue to be missed here.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of my cousin, Jerry. Although we haven't seen each other often as adults (except when he lived in Chapel Hill), I remember great times hanging out with Jerry when we were kids and we'd visit from NC. Riding the carousel at the little amusement park near my grand-parents' house, and possibly ponies there, too.
My mother, Mary, had spoken often with Jerry over the last 10 years or so, particularly the last few years during Meyer's illness, and she is very sad to learn of Jerry's passing.
Our thoughts are with Jerry's friends and family at this sad time.

I remember Jerry from our days at Mary Munford (Kindergarten and on. I think it was either in 5th grade or 5th grade when he brought in a "working" volcano complete with smoke for one of the science projects. Funny, I have never forgotten that after all these years. He was always one of the smartest kids in class.
My Sympathies to all of Jerry's loved ones. May God comfort all of you at this time.
