James Barnard Obituary

BARNARD, James Elbert, of Amelia, passed away on August 25, 2009, his 55th birthday. Jim is survived by his wife, Jane Cooke Barnard; his children, Mary Anne and Jon Holbrook of Bristol, Adam A. Barnard of Amelia, Karen Kinney of Powhatan, Peter C. Barnard and Kasey Turner of Chesterfield; and a grandson, James Cole Barnard. He is also survived by his brothers, Kevin L. Barnard of Lewisville, N.C., and Samuel E. Arrington Jr. and wife, Angela Hill Arrington; his nephew, five nieces, all of Amelia; his sister-in-law, Gayle E. Cooke; and brother-in-law, Kevin Buckley of Cary, N.C. Visitation will be at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home on Thursday, August 27, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a memorial service on Friday, August 28, at 2 p.m. at Hillsman-Hix Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Rennie Memorial Presbyterian Church, c/o D. Royster, 13300 Horseshoe Loop, Amelia, Va. 23002, or honor Jim's lifelong gestures of quiet and humble giving by helping out someone in need; stop and help someone change a tire, help your neighbor fix his tractor, drive someone to a chemo treatment, or give to someone who needs help getting back on their feet.
