This week has been one of the hardest of my life as I say goodbye to a dear friend and colleague. I remember Terry's words of support when we spoke of the loss of my father earlier this year. Terry has been the heart and soul of amateur radio emergency communications in Virginia through his tireless hours of work at VDEM. I recall many conversations with Terry and his devotion and respect to the ham community was ever present. My heartfelt condolences go out to Terry's family in this time of loss. 73 KG4GLS DE KG4YXP.

I met Terry when he first received his Amateur Radio License from the FCC. Right from the start of his Amateur Radio career Terry knew he wanted to be involved with the Emergency Services area of Amateur Radio. As he did this type of work professionally it showed he had a lot of compassion for people and wanting to help those in need to also do the same work on his own time. Through Terry’s many years of devotion to Amateur Radio Emergency Service activity he always maintained a high level of continuous involvement for his service to others that came straight from his heart.
God bless and keep you Terry, rest with the comforting thought that fond memories of you will pass through our minds often until we meet again.

Terry & I met by way of ham radio. Over the past several years we talked across the miles, catching up on happenings in our lives, as I drove home from work in Richmond. His kind, pleasant voice will be missed on the air. My deepest sympathy to his family as you mourn and celebrate Terry's life.

Although I lost touch with Terry in 1965 after high school, I'm not surprised he made his life about helping others - that was Terry. He was sweet and charming in an innocent way with a smile to melt a heart. Terry was the one you hoped to see in between classes or at lunch or at Bulldog games; he made everything fun. I used to walk by the Herbert home to and from George Wythe and often would see Terry in the yard, usually tossing football in the air or to a buddy. Terry was the boy I was happy to call my "friend." His memory will live on in many, many minds and hearts. You have my deepest sympathy at your time of loss.
