James Carroll HAMBLIN

HAMBLIN, James Carroll, 88, of Petersburg, Va., died on Thursday, September 24, 2009. Born in Union County, Mississippi, he was the son of the late William Herman and Oma Lee Chunn Hamblin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Rose Hamblin, in 1988. Jim lived most of his life in Highland Springs and recently moved to the Petersburg area from Chester Village Retirement Community. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater from 1942 to 1945. He was employed by Oregon Technical Products division of Textrons for over 20 years where he worked as a Railroad Electronics Engineer. Jim is survived by his son, James Craig Hamblin and friend, Donald Craghead, of Petersburg, Va.; his companion, Lois G. Gossage and her daughters, Gail Gossage of Chesapeake, Va. and Dee Hyatt of Ronks, Pa.; three brothers, George W. Hamblin of Blue Springs, Miss., Melvin L. Hamblin of New Albany, Miss., and William M. Hamblin of Arlington, Tenn.; two sisters, Lucille Fitzgerald and Ivrey Cobb of New Albany, Miss.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Monday, September 28, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the funeral home.
