Luigi DeFilipo Obituary

DeFilipo, Luigi P. Jr. TROY Luigi P. DeFilipo, 56, currently resided in Troy, formerly of Averill Park, passed away peacefully, June 22, 2006 at the home of his sister, surrounded by family, after a lengthy and courageous battle with both lung and brain cancers. Born August 14, 1952, Luigi was a 1971 graduate of Averill Park High School. He had worked for Montgomery Ward in Menands, the Woodward Company in Albany and most recently for 18 years, at Advance Welding in Green Island, retiring in 2005. Luigi will always be remembered for his quick wit, friendly sense of humor and as a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. He is survived by his two sons, Paul of Green Island, Joseph of Albany (their mother Deborah) and his grandson, Dominic of Stuyvesant. He is also survived by his three devoted sisters, Ann (Bruce) Stafford of East Greenbush, Joyce (John) Cooper of Sand Lake and Marsha (Thomas) McGrath of Brunswick. Generations of nieces and nephews were also continuously and lovingly by Uncle Luigi's side in his final weeks. His family would like to thank Dr. Ferraro and the staff at NYOH and the wonderful people at Community Hospice of Rensselaer County. Friends and relatives are invited to remember Luigi during calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. A private interment will be held according to Luigi's wishes at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those that wish to honor Luigi's life, take the time to enjoy a cold one and a baseball game, preferably the Yankees. Joyce and Family -
I am so sorry to hear of Bud's passing - I remember his wonderful sense of humor and spirit. I also remember how he tried to teach my mother's mynah bird how to say a few of the '7 words you can't say on TV' and how hard we all laughed when she asked him about it.... My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Luigi aka "The Good Dr." -
I'll never forget the good times we had at The Hill (Poker games starting at midnight and the New Year's Eve bashes) or of course the AP Brewers. Yes YOGI, your #8 has been retired.
What about the time we decided to hit every "port in the storm" from Hoosick Falls to Hanks - absolutely wild!! Finally, you were right, Monkey Wards did suck!
God Bless and until we meet again - Love ya Man. Your favorite coach

Dear Cousins
My only sorrow now is that we didn't make it up from FL in time to see Bud - but as someone said - "he now is at peace and in the front row seat of the Yankees". You were all wonderful to him and we will see you soon. Our sincere sympathy to you all. Love Cousin Barbara and Art

Dear Ann, Bruce and all the rest of the family,
I do believe your brother now has a front row seat in all the Yankee games!
You have all been wonderful models in the way you honored and cared for Luigi. May that be the love that remains in your hearts. Know that you are in our hearts and prayers in the coming days.
Love,
