Robert Crosby Obituary

Crosby, Robert D. CHATHAM, N.Y. Robert D. Crosby died peacefully at home on Monday, July 14, 2008. He was the son of William and Mildred Crosby. He retired in 1990 after 37 years of teaching at Greenville Central School then at East Greenbush Central Schools where he honored as Teacher of the Year in 1989. One of the original founders of Crellin Park and its first director, Bob was also instrumental in the reopening of the Morris Memorial Youth Center and involved in the MacHadyn Theater in its early days as well as many other community organizations. His greatest joys were his family and his lifelong love of music, both vocal and mandolin. He was a member of Hudson Valley Choral Society, Catskill Glee Club, barbershop groups, church choir, Sometimes Singers and other local musical organizations. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Keil Crosby and their sons and daughters-in-law, George and Deborah Crosby of Sharon Springs, N.Y., Jeff and Sian Crosby of Concord, N.H., John and Julie Crosby of Marion, Mass., Dan and Jane Crosby of Bethlehem, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and a brother, Gerald Crosby of Austin, Texas. Bob was predeceased by his son, Robert M. Crosby and brother, William Crosby. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at Chatham United Methodist Church.
