Delfina Vredenburg

Vredenburg, Delfina MECHANICVILLE Delfina B. (Vega) Vredenburg died peacefully just before midnight on October 9, 2008 in the care of the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County in Seton Health St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, after suffering a leg injury in a fall at home on September 9, followed by a massive stroke on September 25. Born October 15, 1921 in Mechanicville at the home of her late parents, Joseph (Jose) Rodriguez Vega, an immigrant from Asturias, Spain (who died at 37 when Delfina was four) and Ora Isles Vega (who died at 51 the week of Delfina's marriage at 19). A lifelong resident of Mechanicville, faithful communicant of its United Methodist Church, where for many years, she coordinated flowers for the altar and was a member of the Adult Fellowship Club. A devoted homemaker and mother, after raising her children, she worked briefly for the Mechanicville school system, volunteered at the public library and was a member of the Dorothy Welch Choral Society. Mother, mentor, teacher, confidante, guide and example, a model of charity and devotion, a thoughtful and compassionate friend. Also predeceased by her sister Geraldine, who died at age four, the year before Delfina was born, and by most of her many relatives and countless friends. Survived by Hayden Vredenburg, her devoted husband of 68 years; her grateful sons, Jeffrey Lance Vredenburg and David Arthur Vredenburg, both of Mechanicville, and Hayden Joseph Vredenburg (Joanne) of East Greenbush; her loving grandchildren, Kirsten Leslie Butterfield (Hayden Todd) of East Greenbush, and Myles Austin Vredenburg (Asli Binal) of Manhattan. Adoring great-grand-mother of Hayden Pierce Butterfield and Roan Larkin Butterfield; dear cousin of Juanita Isles Coon of Ballston Spa and Isabel Vega Hayner of Mechanicville. The family express its profound thanks to the physicians, nurses and other staff of the Seton Health Family Health Center in Mechanicville, Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa, the visiting nurse service of Saratoga County Department of Health, the staff in the Emergency Room, 5 South and stroke units of St. Mary's Hospital and at the Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy, and her many other physicians, nurses and caregivers for the quality and compassion of their care. Calling hours in the Cummings Chapel of the United Methodist Church, 7 North Main Street, Mechanicville (parking and ramp access in the rear), Monday, October 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and 9-11 a. m., Tuesday, October 14, concluded by sacred music and a service of death and resurrection. Private committal and burial in the Vega family plot in Stillwater Union Cemetery, Stillwater, N.Y.
