HANNA Mark N. Jr. Mark Nelson Hanna, Jr., 83, of Toledo, OH, peacefully passed to eternal life with our Lord on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was born on June 6, 1925, in Beech Creek, PA to Mark and Catherine (Lindsey) Hanna. He learned his strong work ethic at an early age having to help out on the family farm before school each morning, still finding time to develop a love for hunting and fishing that continued throughout his life. After growing up in Pennsylvania, Mark married Genevieve Kaurich, his loving wife of 61 years, and settled in Toledo. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during World War II. Mark was a proud graduate of Pennsylvania State University, and he earned an MBA from the University of Toledo. He also attended the University of Michigan and Texas Tech, and earned a pilot's license in the early 1960s. An avid Penn State football fan, Mark eagerly anticipated watching every Nittany Lions football game played each fall. But Mark was so much more than a spectator; his athletic prowess was storied among his children and grandchildren who often found themselves on the wrong side of his elbow or hip. His toughness in sports and life was only surpassed by the love and devotion for his family. He was ever patient whether teaching his grandsons how to tie a fly and cast it among the peaceful ponds of Rockwood Springs or his kids how to "Hold the golf club like it's a baby bird, tight enough to keep him from flying away, but not so tight that you might break its wings." He managed to hold his entire family this way, inspiring each to live to his or her fullest potential while feeling loved and protected by an amazing husband, dad, grandpa or great-grandpa. Over the years he enjoyed many family gatherings that included time spent around the dinner table, or watching a favorite sporting event on TV, or countless hours spent with the family in rounds of golf, or games of touch football, basketball and backyard volleyball, even continuing to venture out onto the volleyball court well into his 70s. Mark's love and enthusiasm for sports was so contagious it passed along to his children and grandchildren and inspired an annual family golf tournament held for the past 10 years, and a hotly contested NCAA March Madness pool enjoyed for the past 20. Mark's professional life included jobs with Remington Rand and Champion Spark Plug and culminated in a long successful marketing career with National Family Opinion (NFO) where he rose to executive vice president, Administration. His professional memberships included the American Marketing Association, serving as president of the local chapter, and Rotary International of Toledo, OH. He also taught marketing part time at the University of Toledo. Retiring in 1986, Mark took up the game of tennis during winters spent in Palm Harbor, FL. He continued to play golf year round in Ohio and Florida, and enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, the Gulf of Mexico, and in the ponds and streams of the Rockwell Springs Trout Club in Castalia, OH. Mark also became an avid reader in retirement and was particularly fond of western novels. A man of faith, Mark was a member of St. Patrick of Heather- downs Parish for 47 years. An avid golfer, he was a member of Heatherdowns Country Club for 43 years and Innisbrook Golf Resort in Florida for over 30 years where he scored a hole in one in 1998. He was also a member of the Rockwell Springs Trout Club for more than 25 years. Too many memories to recount of a life well lived will be remember and cherished by his wife, Genevieve, children Ronald (Peggy) Hanna, Mary (Fred) Koralewski, John (Ronda) Hanna, Patricia Hanna, Mark (Terri) Hanna, and Timothy (Sheri) Hanna; his grandchildren, Matthew (Leigh) Hanna, James (Amy) Hanna, Sara Hanna, Stephen (Jamey) Koralewski, Brian (Mary) Koralewski, Nancy (Bill) Fehringer, Jessica (Travis) Custer, Michael (Mary) Adamski, Christopher (Courtney) Adamski, Nicholas Adamski, Kyle (Natalie) Hanna, Melanie (Nate) Christian, and Drew, Bradley and Dylan Hanna; and his great-grand-children, Alec, Hannah, Emma, Nathanael, Madison, Caleb, Eli, Avery, Sophia, Ayden, Grace, Mark and Ava. Also surviving are his sisters, Allene (Edward) Gallagher, Mary (James) Fugate, and Kay (Robert) Bruce; brothers, James (Erma) Hanna and Thomas (Cindy) Hanna, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert. Friends may call at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Friday from 2-8 p.m., where a Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the mortuary followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
