She is survived by her husband, Cecil McVey; one son, Tony McVey and his wife, Judy, of Chilhowie; one daughter, Kelley Burnette and her husband, Cliff, of Damascus; three sisters, Anita Sheets and her husband, Jamie, of Chilhowie, Polly Scott and her husband, Roy, of Abingdon and Libby Sturgill and her husband, Vernon, of Chilhowie; three brothers, Stanley Barr and his wife, Janet, Sidney Barr and his wife, Polly, and Ron Barr and his wife, Deb, all of Chilhowie; four grandchildren, Justin McVey, Brady McVey, Brianna Thomas and Jacob Burnette; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service was conducted Nov. 15 in the Lebanon United Methodist Church with the Revs. Luther Roberts and Jack Stevens officiating.  The committal service and interment was Nov. 16 in the Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Reid Barr, Stephen Barr, Sidney Barr Jr., Andy Widener, Jamie Sheets and Jim Ross.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to the Lebanon United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, c/o Cliff Burnette, 21142 Diamond Drive, Damascus, VA 24236.  The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Hospice of Southwest Virginia, especially her nurse, Lisa Cregger, and to Dr. Mark Davis and staff of the Cancer Outreach Associates. Online condolences may be sent and viewed and a memorial video tribute may be viewed by visiting www.garrettfuneralhome.com.    Mrs. McVey and her family are in the care of Garrett Funeral Home, Damascus

I knew Sue for over 12 years since I became the Office Manager at Carroll County Social Services. We went on several trips together and even roomed together in Richmond once. Sue was very sweet and a wonderful Christian example. She loved her family. She will be missed by all of us in the Department of Social Services.

I didn't get to know Sue very well before she retired, but from the time I did spend with her, she seemed to be a truly caring person. My mother recently passed away from cancer, so I know how devasting it can be. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very difficult time.

Sorry to hear that Sue has passed away. She fought a long and couragous battle, and now is no longer suffering. My condolences to the entire family. My sister Opal kept me updated on Sue's condition, and I will always remember that she sang in church choir when my Mom and Dad both passed away. She cried as we cried.
