Andy was the little brother I never knew I wanted, but so privileged to have had. He still comes in my thoughts so many years after having to say goodbye. We often don´t realize the lessons our friends teach us till years later. You, even though younger, taught me to appreciate the little moments. I remember you would hop in your truck and ghost out for a weekend. Only to return with awesome stories and list a newly made friends. You had a gift with being able to create both friends and memories in any situation. In the few years this world was gifted with your presence, it truly was gift.
It´s that gift and personality that causes my mind to remember and reflect. Thank you for that.

Me and Ansley were talking recently about Uncle Andy. We both said we would´ve liked to meet him. That´s what I´ve always imagined, being able to meet him. It´s weird to have people talk about someone you can´t even put a face to the name of, but I digress. I think he would´ve been pretty damn cool. Maybe we would´ve gotten along. I think we would´ve, I´m pretty funny, as I like to think.

i just found out about andy today.. I found a card he wrote to me on valentines day 2004 today, and decided to look him up. When i saw this obituary i could not believe it was the same andy i knew.. i read it over and over again in disbelief.. it wasnt till i saw the youtube video that i knew it was him.. I have thought about him for so many years and just wished we never lost touch.. he was a great man, a great soldier, a great son.. i will cherish the memories and laughter. I remember how he would fly down to tampa to see me, and how i drove up to GA to see him as much we could. It was so cold last time i saw him in GA, it was the first time I seen snow, with him. the last time i saw him, he looked like such an angel.. I have never met anyone like andy sence then, doubt i ever will. he had a great heart and he is one in a million... I am sorry for your loss.

I was heartsick at the news of Andy's passing. I was never close to him but I always admired him from afar all my life, since riding the same bus & sharing some classes since kindergarten. I remember him as a goodhearted and kind person, and as I read his family and friend's entries about who he was and the man he became I can not help but feel that I missed out on having a great friend.
Your pain will lessen with time, though you will always miss him. I lost my cousin Jamie 11 years ago and still miss her dearly. I know first hand that it will take time for you to no longer feel heartache each day. Just Know that he is still with you in spirit, and is now able to watch over you more than he ever could here on earth.

For his parents; my aunt was comforted greatly by the Compassionate Friends Network after Jamie passed. I would recommend it to you in case you need to talk to others who understand what you have gone through. (http://www.tcfatlanta.org)
my prayers are with you.

You all remain in our thoughts and prayers. When Kevin was 15 his brother was killed in an automobile accident. They were very close as most brother close in age are. I can't imagine your pain. From everything I have read your son was a wonderful young man. I pray that God continues to hold you near and am certain that you will be together with Andy in heaven one day.

God Bless all of you,

It will be a year this week since Andy died. We have received so many messages and have read all of them, and appreciate all of them.

There is no way to prepare for the loss of a child and every parent thinks their child is wonderful, and we are no exception.

Andy brought so much joy to us and could be so funny and get on your last nerve, but Andy lived life on his terms. He went places and saw things that most of us never will. Andy was a good son, a good soldier, and a good friend. I learned so much about him after he died that I didn't know. I have questions as to why Andy died, and I know those will answered when I see him again. I suppose God had a plan for Andy to make heaven a little more merrier.

Our hearts are just as broken today as they were last April 2lst, but then I think how much richer our lives are because Andy was given to us, even for a short time. We love you Andy,

love, mom and dad

Since losing Andy I have learned a lot. I learned that Andy was much more than he appeared. I knew he was a good friend, always good for a laugh, a fun guy to be around. I knew he was someone who enjoyed life and was sure of himself. I knew he wasn’t afraid of much and was very independent. I knew how difficult he could be, how he could make anyone laugh and rarely met a stranger. I did not know how compassionate he was, how heroic he was or how brave he was. I wish I had known these things while he was here. But, he was humble that way, I suppose.

I have also learned a lot about life. That it is precious. That it can change in an instant. That it is fragile and should be spent wisely. That we don’t know what life holds in store for us. We don’t know where life will take us. We can only trust that there is a reason for everything we live through, and that living through the hard times is the biggest challenge of all. And that when our time on earth is over, we will all have deeply touched those we have known.

I remember the day Andy was born. Mom called me at Grandma’s and told me I had another brother. I told her that if they were bringing home another brother, then I would get to name him. And so I did. I hope he liked it.
I also remember the day Andy died. Mom called to tell me that my baby brother was gone. Both phone calls are unforgettable. Both changed my world.

I hope and pray that Andy will live on through everyone who loves him. By telling stories about him, laughing at him, crying because we miss him, and never letting his name become a memory.

I know I am not alone in feeling like my heart is broken. I suppose one day it will heal, but it will never be the same. There will always be a place that isn’t whole. It hurts for me, for my daughters and nieces that won’t grow up with their crazy Uncle Andy. It hurts for my parents who had to bury their child. It hurts for my brother because he lost as much as I did. It hurts for his girlfriend and his friends. It hurts for the past – the memories that only me and brothers shared. It hurts for the present and the heartache losing him has brought. It hurts for the future with him that will never be.

One day I’ll see you again, bro. Until then, I hope we all make you smile, make you laugh and make you as proud as you made us.

Love,
Sis

I have known Andy since I moved to Lawrenceville in 1990. He was always a good friend with a sense of humor that could not be matched. To lose a person such as Andy is a tremendous loss to all of us who are his friends but the loss is unimaginable for his family. To the family: our thoughts and prayers go out to you. But, during this time of loss and mourning, know this: Andy is at home with our father embraced with a love that he will know for eternity.

Dear Haney Family, It's very difficult to express the sorrow we feel for your family. We've only known Andy for a few years but he was a friend, a brother figure to our daughter, Stephanie (Fefe), when she first moved to Tennessee. The times we spent with Andy were truly memorable. You have raised an incredible young man. Our thoughts and prayers are with you always. Sincerely, The Spradlin Family

Billie, Mary and Family,
It's been some time since I have seen everyone but I, too, was so saddened by the news of Andy's sudden passing. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mary, Billie, Brad, and Sharon,

What I remember most is Andy's laugh as a kid. You definitely knew when Andy was tickled about something. I vividly remember playing army and baseball with Andy, Brad, Chris, Jess, Kasey, and Daniel in your pasture or the Landress’.

I had talked to Andy when he decided to join the military and saw him again just after he finished basic training. In 1997, I met him at Applebee's to talk about what it was like and about 2 months later, I decided to join myself. I can't help but think that Andy played a big part in helping me make the decision to change my life.

He was a magnet of life and a natural leader. Others tend to follow what honest, good hearted people do and I can say there are lots of people that have been positively influenced by Andy.

He will be missed and my thoughts and prayers are with the family and I thank you for raising such a great person.

I knew Andy as SSG Haney and served along side him through several tours in Iraq. He was an awesome teacher and one of the most laid back soldiers I have ever worked with. Although I was his junior as far as rank is concerned, he made me feel like an equal when we worked together. His dedication, expertise and genuine concern for his fellow soldiers is, I'm sure, and indication of how he was raised. Though I did not know Andy on a personal level, I too, mourn his loss as a comrade and fellow soldier. My prayers are with you during your difficult time.

May God grant you strength to overcome your lost. I met Andy only once and he had a charisma about himself that enlightened everyone around him. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten. He accomplished a lot in his short time here on earth. May God bless your family, Phillipians 4:13.

I cannot begin to tell you guys how sorry I am for your loss. I feel like I have lost a brother. Andy was probably the sweetest person I have ever known. I feel priviledged to have been a part of his life and blessed to have known him. With he and Noah being best friends he was always around our family. I can't imagine him not being around physically, but I know he will always be with each of us spiritually. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God Bless.

I went to elementary school with Andy, and then we were reunited again in college. He had an incredible wit and sense of humor, and I loved his carefree, laid-back personality. He also truly loved his family and his country. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Bille and Mary
Andy is like part of my family, he and Noah were the best of friends. I remember the homemade movies that Andy, Noah and Brad made in your basement when they were young. I will miss his smile and his conversations around the camp fire that we had on numerous occasions at the farm in Southern Illinois. My prayers are with you, and the rest of the family.
