Donald Braun Obituary

Braun, Donald Albert
Donald Albert Braun died peacefully on Saturday March 19, 2011. A generous, kind, exceptional man, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and volunteer, all who knew him loved him. His family and friends will treasure his special wit and the twinkle in his eyes. Don was born in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1930 to Carl Franklin Braun, Vice President of W. F. Hall Printing Company and Edith Lennea Braun (Johnson). Don grew up in the Chicago area and later attended Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pennsylvania where earned a Bachelor of Science in Printing Management. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952 and served during the Korean War. Don and Marilyn moved to Arizona in the 70s where he pursued his entrepreneurial achievements in the fields of food services and real estate. After retirement, he spent more time with his family and explored his diverse interests. Among his many contributions, Don served as a founding member of Pinnacle Presbyterian Church, a proud chairman of his church's building committee, a member of the University of Arizona Foundation and as a member of the Pinnacle Theological Center. He was a man of strong faith and a mentor to many. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, skiing, reading and spending time with his family and dogs. He appreciated good food and fine music. During the last year of his life, he shared his time proudly with the other volunteers at Mayo Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Marilyn Braun, of Scottsdale; daughters Carol of Denver, CO, Allison of Durango, CO; his sons Peter of Seattle, WA, and Charles of Anthem; his beloved grandchildren Nick, Haley, Erin, Sam, Cooper, Lexi, Ryan, Keenan and Zoe; and his sister Lois Braun Howe of Chicago, Il. The family would like to thank his doctors, Mayo Hospital, Advanced Health Care of Glendale, and Sherman House of Hospice of the Valley for the skillful and excellent care he received. We would also like to thank the many friends who have offered loving support over the past months. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 26, 2011 at 11:00 am at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church, 25150 North Pima Road in Scottsdale. Contributions can be made to Pinnacle Presbyterian Church and Sherman House of Hospice of the Valley. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary.
