We were friends of Duane’s beginning in the mid-1980s, when Clemens worked with Duane at Forms by Design in Portland. After leaving Forms, we became personal friends, traveling from time to time from our homes in Portland and Boston to visit John and Duane at the Beehive in Alfred. We kept in touch after moving to Tampa, Florida in 2002, and visited Duane at his new residence on Kennebunk Rd. in Alfred. We last spoke by phone on May 29, 2008, when we enjoyed a long conversation and lots of laughs. Both John and Duane were quality people whose warmth and hospitality we were privileged to enjoy. We trust that they are happily reunited and will remain so forevermore.

What to say? If you knew Duane, then you probably know the sentiments being felt at this time. I'm sure Duane would want each of us to celebrate the life he lived in this community. Duane will be sorely missed by many, many friends. Recently, I was privileged to enjoy an evening with Duane and other friends at a dinner party. It was a wonderful evening and that event will be long remembered. Duane has joined the love of his life and I'm sure they have alot of catching up to do. RIP my friend.

I was friends with Duane for 46 years. He was a kind, loving person who appreciated the 19th century far more than the 20th or 21st. We have shared good times and bad, and through it all he was a staunch, loving friend. We particularly shared a love of cats, music, antiques, houses and farms. I will miss him very much. I like to think of him happily reunited with John and his loved ones.
