Shoveling with Pat and Ed, circa 1984

I grew up across the street from Pat and Ed on Canterbury Road, and Pat was a wonderful neighbor, and closer to a grandmother to me. I have fond memories of going over to their house for cookies when I was very little, and later going over to shovel their driveway in winter (see pic; I could do it myself when I got older!). My strongest, fondest memory of Pat, though, is synonymous with summer: seeing Pat across the street, gardening away, and producing to most beautiful, well-loved garden I've seen.

I will miss Pat so very much. She was not only a colleague, but a very dear friend, a gentle and kind woman, a strong voice and advocate for children and all animals. She loved both with passion. So many good memories, she truly was a part of the fabric of my life. We worked together in a variety of settings, MGH, VNAB and VNA of Salem, she was a gifted educator and did especially well teaching our new graduate nurses. She made the best chocolate cake and I was always blessed by her delivery of one every year for my birthday! Be at peace for you have made our world a better place.

So many fond memories of Pat from Shepard Gill school of nursing at MGH. I ate my first lobster at her house and embarassed myself but she wouldn't allow me to be embarassed.
I have several pictures that I will try to locate from our Shepard Gill school days.

Pat was the best great aunt. I called her Auntie Pat. she was so kind and full of joy all the time. She lived with my family and I. Even if my mom was cooking something grosse for dinner she would still say "this was a dilishious meal'' She always made me laugh! I miss her very much.

Pat Bennett was the best neighbor anyone could ever have. We (husband Rick, son Christopher, and I) had the privilege and pleasure of living across the street from Pat and her late husband Ed in Newton Highlands for fifteen years. During that time, they showered us with love that took many forms. Pat was a genuinely sweet, kind, caring person, an excellent listener, a faithful friend, an enthusiastic fan, a great cook, an ardent gardener, a dedicated pet (cat and dog) owner, etc. The nurturing nature that lead her to be an outstanding nurse manifested itself in every area of her life. Pat was a gentle woman who was fiercely devoted to all around her, thereby enriching their daily lives and leaving a lasting legacy of love. For all of her gifts, we will be forever grateful.
