Dear Allison, Katie and the Hall family:

I am so sorry to hear of Eddie's passing. I was Eddie's German TA at Penn State, and we stayed in touch for a few years after graduation. I recently came across some photos of him and thought I would see if I could find him again. I was heartbroken to find this article.

Although we hadn't spoken for several years, I remember Eddie as always having a smile on his face and being such a genuinely nice guy. He remains in my best memories of PSU.

May you find peace and comforting in your memories of Eddie. I am so sorry for your loss.

It is hard to believe that I am writing to express sympathy for the loss of Eddie...so young and vibrant...he will be so sorely missed by all who knew him. I have such fond memories of Eddie and the entire family. My childhood would not have been the same without the Hall family! You are such a close family, my heart goes out to you all. The last time I saw Eddie was at Eric's house and he was just enthralled with the baby - such a proud dad! My prayers are with you... To the entire Hall family,

I am so sorry for your loss. As you know, Eddie was a great guy. We had homeroom together at Orono HS, he always had a smile on his face and something amusing to say! My favorite memory was when I caught Eddie's fly-ball in PE and he exclaimed, "That's like me beating her in a swimming race!" (so funny the things we remember). My prayers and thoughts are with you now and in the time to come.

Dear Bill, Eric, Bob and Families,

My sincere condolences on the loss of your loving brother and son. I am enclosing an Irish poem in hope that it may comfort you in this time of sorrow.

Lessons of Experience

I learn as the years roll onward
And leave the past behind
That much I have counted sorrow
But proves our God is kind;

That many a flower I longed for
Had a hidden thorn of pain,
And many a rugged bypath
Led to fields of ripened grain.

The clouds but cover the sunshine,
They cannot banish the sun,
And the earth shines out brighter
When the weary rain is done.

We must stand in the deepest sorrow
To see the clearest light,
And often from wrongs own darkness
Comes the very strength of right.

So the heart from the hardest trial
Gains the purest joy of all,
And from the lips that have tasted sadness
The sweetest songs will fall.

For as peace comes after suffering,
And love is reward of pain,
So after earth comes heaven
And out of our loss the gain.

Dear Hall Family....My heart grieves for your loss. Eddie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. I'm sorry beyond words for the pain you are all suffering. Eddie demonstrated the true depth of his strength, character and love of life, family and friends in his courageous fight until the very end. I will always remember that. But, when I think of Eddie I will remember his life and what it represented; I will remember his strength, his courage, his commitment to and love for his wife, daughter, mother, brothers and sisters and all his family. I will remember that he loved and was loved and was happy; a life well lived.

It is with deep sympathy and sadness that I send to you my condolences on the passing of Eddie. To this day, some of my fondest memories are during my childhood and spending time with the Hall Family. I still remember Eddie and Ellen coming to our house to eat cereal all the time. Although it has been many years since those days; the memories are still vivid. It is hard to imagine that Eddie is gone. The Hall family is one of the strongest, kindest and loving families I know. Dear Allison, Katie, Mary, Bob, Laurie, Robert, Eric, Sara, Billy and Ellen,
We are sorry that we are not able to be with you this day, and it is with many reflecting emotions of so many fond memories of all of you, that I try to write these consoling words. We feel heartfelt sorrow today, as all of us, has lost one of the best guys, anyone could ever have known, a loving son, a wonderful husband, a devoted father, a loving brother, and a great friend! We will always remember Eddie's gentle smile and kind way which will live with us forever.
As we look into the heavens each night, perhaps it is not the stars that we see, but rather the openings in Heaven, where the love of Eddie pours through and shines down upon us, letting us know that he is happy, and that he will no longer have to endure the pain and suffering that plagued him during his young life.
"Like a bird singing in the rain, let grateful memories survive in time of sorrow."
Fondly,
With our heartfelt sympathy and love to all,
Bob and Janet McGowan

To the entire Hall family,
My heart is broken to hear of Eddie's passing... It's not fair that he was taken from this world so soon, as he was just beginning his life with his wife and baby daughter. I will always cherish the many great memories I have growing up with the Eddie, Ellen and P.K. in Billerica. I often thought of the Hall's as my extended family, and Eddie was like a brother. It never mattered how many months and years passed, as life would get in the way...we would always picked up where we left off.
I felt so honored to be present on that beautiful august day a few years ago, overlooking the ocean when Eddie and Allison were married. This was the last time I saw Eddie, he was so happy! For that I am so thankful. Because that will always be how I remember him...happy! Rest in peace my dear friend Eddie, and may God comfort you all through this difficult time.

Love,

Meghan, Doug and family
