I met Joe only 3 or 4 times.. My sister had rented a room from him for about 2 years.. After speaking to the man and hearing what little he talked of his stories, he handed me his book to read. I was amazed at what these young men, some of them just kids and women had went through. Also after reading the book and seeing with my own eye's the numerous authentic pictures and service awards Joe received from the war and the president, I came to only one conclusion, This was the greatest generation ever. I can't even imagine being on that bomber with him . I am happy I was fortunate enough to shake this mans hand, hug him and thank him for what he did in WW2. Along with the rest of his comrade's I would like to thank everyone involved in that time in history. I am sure Joe will be missed, and one last note before I finish, I never took the time to hear much about what a senior's thought's were, till I spoke to one of them.. RIP. Lieutenant Lovoi

I am writing this with a sad heart. Cousin Joe meant a lot to me and others in our branch of the Lovoi family. We never did narrow down our exact relationship to him. Our family history was specific that before leaving Sicily they agreed not to change the spelling of their name and this is what led us to Joe some years back. Joe came to visit us in New Orleans and it was then at first sight we knew he was one of us...he was the image of our Uncle Tony Lovoi. Our thinking is that our Grandpa Salvatore came over on one of his excursions with 2 two nephews and one was Octavia and the other ? Anyway if there is anything we can possibly do to ease any burdens please let us know. A world without Joe is a sad place indeed. His courage is his story and his book said it all. With great sadness and condolence to Joe's family, I remain, Carmel. [email protected]

My husband and I met Joe about 6 years ago. He was a wonderful man. If people have not read his book about his POW experience, they should. He will be dearly missed. He was smart, funny, giving and a great friend.

I had the honor to meet Joseph Lovoi on August 14th, 2008. We met at the Lawrence Municipal Airport where he was invited to fly on the EAA's B-17 Aluminum Overcast. Joe spoke of his experiences while serving in the Army Air Corps as a Navagator on B-17's. My Dad was a B-17 Co-Pilot during WWII. Two weeks ago I purchased Joe's book "Listen My Children and Stay Free" I had hoped to meet with Joe sometime soon to have him sign my book. I was saddend yesterday when I learned of his death from his friend and WWII Veteran, John Katsaros. Rest in peace my friend, and thank you for your service to our country and for the freedom we all enjoy today. As Joe wrote in his book.........."We are the living. We feel dawn and see sunset glow. With outstretched arms we catch the torch. God help us if we drop it."
