Peter Lange Obituary

LANGE, Peter H. Age 82, of Marshfield Hills passed away peacefully in the company of his family at South Shore Hospital on October 3, 2008. Peter was born in East Prussia and as a teenager fought in WWII on the battlefields of Germany, Poland and Denmark. In spite of the many tribulations in post-war Europe, he studied Economics at the University in Hamburg, Germany and subsequently immigrated to the United States and became a citizen. Peter was a successful business executive with the pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co. Peter's career with Merck spanned a period of 20 years with assignments in Central and South America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Peter retired from Merck as Regional Director for India and surrounding countries. Not being of the retiring kind, Peter joined the International Executive Services Corps (IESC) and spent 10 years developing industries in Indonesia, Africa and Central America. Peter also devoted considerable time to advising the Augusto Walte School in El Salvador in financial and administrative matters. The Augusto Walte School was founded by his wife's mother and is one of the well-respected private schools in El Salvador. Peter was, in his later years, very active with the local organizations in Marshfield Hills including, the Hills Investment Club, the Men's Bible Study group, as well as the "Old Goats" group. Peter's lifetime of travel, accompanied by his wife, Heidemarie, included working in 44 countries and vacationing in 15 others. Peter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Heidemarie of Marshfield, his son Marc of Pembroke and his brothers Klaus and Siegfried in Germany. Relatives and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, October 11th at 11AM at the North Community Church in Marshfield Hills. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Peter's memory to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Please note on donations the Daniel Webster Post # 8345, where Peter enjoyed time with friends and compatriots of WWII. Funeral arrangements by the MacDonald, 1755 Ocean St. (Rte 139, MARSHFIELD. Heidemarie,
My most heartfelt prayers go out to you and your family in the passing of Peter.. I had the privilege of having shining moments of conversation with Peter, when visiting Mom and Dad. When walking to Damon's Point, I would sometimes run into him and we would have a moment of conversation; or I might see him at church and he would give me a kind greeting and smile; or I would be invited to the "Men's Bible Study" and listen in on the rich insights shared by Peter and Dad and so many others. Peter always shared with such humility and wisdom, and I always left his presence smiling and feeling special. He truly loved life and all it had to offer... It is such a joy to my heart to have known him even a little bit.. My life is the richer for it and I will miss him...A gentle man through and through...In Love, Betsey (Mitchell) Lindstrom

Dear Heide:

During one’s journey in life, rarely does a person encounter a gentleman whose greatness and modesty reside in one person like Peter. With his vast knowledge and experience of world affairs, spanning more than three quarters of a century, we knew we were in the company of an intellectual giant.

My wife, Lidia, and I had the honor of being the friends of Peter and his gracious wife Heidemarie for over 15 years. Lidia and Heidemarie were the cofounders of the South Shore Latina Ladies Group, in which Peter and I met at various occasions within and outside this circle. We had numerous enlightening discussions, which attracted other participants, and as a result, we were all enriched with his humor and insight.

Peter will be missed, but his memory will always remain with us.
