Robert Loomis Obituary

LOOMIS, Robert Leslie 83, a long time resident of Acton, MA died on Oct 14, 2008. He is survived by his beloved wife, Arlene Loomis (Findley-Garrett). Robert & Arlene recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. In addition to his wife, Robert leaves one daughter; Pamela Steenburg of Fulton, MO, and four sons; James Garrett of Callahan, Florida; Robert L. Loomis II of Salinas, California; Eric Loomis of Holden, MA; & Paul Loomis of Shrewsbury, MA. A fifth son, Barry Loomis passed away in 1972. Robert's sister Jane Gulley lives in Ft. Worth, TX. Born & raised in Little Rock, AR., Robert joined the U.S. Air Force upon completing high school. He flew for the Air Force as a pilot with the 19th AF, SAC, being stationed at several AF bases including Tripoli & Izmir, Turkey. He also worked on the Bomark Missile program out of Hurlbert Field, FL. He proudly served until his retirement in 1963 as a Lt. Colonel. Following his duty in the armed services, Robert worked for MITRE Corp. on numerous communications contracts around the globe until retiring in 1990. Other interest of Robert's included active membership in the congregation & choir of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church of Acton & active board membership of the West Acton Citizen's Library. All are invited to visiting hours Sat. Oct. 18th from 9:30-11:30AM at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass Ave (Rte 111) ACTON. Col. Loomis,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USAF-especially during WW II. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
