Roger Sonnabend was one of most intelligent and perceptive people I have ever met. Working for Roger for 16 years, I always marveled at his wisdom and knowledge. Dare I say he was always right? Probably! What a genius! When I heard of his passing, I felt I had lost the patriarch of my second family, my Sonesta family... he will be missed by so many of us.

I knew Roger from the time I joined what was then Lodging & Foodservice East (now Foodservice East) in the early 70's and always appreciated the distinguished role he played in the hotel field, both locally and nationally.

Please accept my condolences to The Sonnabend Family on the passing of Roger. He was a great and brilliant man, who inspired many. He was wonderful to work for, and he always pushed me to do better. One of the fondest memories in my career was Roger and Joan taking me to look at hotels in St. Barths. He was one of a kind and will not be forgotten.

I was a neophyte hotel man in the mid 60's looking for a career in the hotel industry. I had just joined HCA and was attending a corporate management meeting when Roger Sonnabend arrived at the Somerset ballroom on his bicycle. Even then he was well ahead of time, excercising and saving fuel. In my over 40 years of working in the hotel industry, there was no greater innovator than Roger Sonnabend. Rest well my leader!
