It's hard to believe it's been a year.
I constantly think of Dave and recently had a conversation with some friends talking in glowing terms about the heart and the humanity of the man.
He is one of a handful of people who have passed that I dearly miss.

Hi Erin,
I'm always reminded of Dave because I still have some ugly ties that I can't give away. He was a great guy and there's no one to replace his smiling face.
Sincerely,
Christina

Dear Mary;
I was so sorry to hear of David's passing. David was one of my favorite "kids" from Fairfield Street. I have such wonderful memories of him... he was so funny, upbeat and just plain nice. He left us much too soon. I wish you and your family strength during this time.

My deepest sympathies to the Ryan family. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of all the Ryan brothers. I loved coming home from playing outdoors to find a Ryan at my house hanging out with my brother Paul. I spent many hours watching them flip baseball cards, playing whiffleball, climbing trees or just following them around.
Dave's kind and gentle nature was a precious gift to all who knew him.
God bless,

Dear Mary, Scott ,Erin and the entire Ryan Family,
I want to tell you how saddened I was to hear the news about Dave or as I knew him "coach".
My family and I still laugh about how when I first was coached by him in basketball he called me "quarter pounder" and later as I grew, "Big Mac". His sense of humor was priceless.
He will be missed.

TO MARY,SCOTT, LAUREL ,ERIN,STEFANO
BUDDY,RICHY,DENNIS AND JACKIE
DAVE ALWAYS HAD THAT MAGICAL GIFT OF MAKING HIS FRIENDS FEEL SPECIAL. HE HAD A POSITIVE ATTITUDE
ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT HE WAS INVOLVED WITH AND HIS WORK ETHIC AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL WERE SECOND TO NONE.HIS MOTTO IN LIFE WAS TO ALWAYS GIVE YOUR BEST EFFORT
IN EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO AND TO
NEVER TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS BECAUSE
SHORTCUTS WERE SOMEHOW KIND OF LIKE CHEATING.
I REMEMBER FIRST MEETING DAVE
AT SNEAKERTEST AT HOOD RUBBER IN WATERTOWN WHEN I WAS 8 YEARS OLD AND DAVE WAS ONLY 7.
UNTIL THAT DAY, I THOUGHT ALL
KIDS WERE ABOUT THE SAME IN APPEARANCE AND SIZE. I WAS
STANDING WITH DAVE IN LINE WAITING FOR OUR TURNS AND I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT HE WAS ONLY 7. HE WAS ABOUT 6 INCHES TALLER THAN ME AND HIS HANDS AND FINGERS WERE TWICE THE SIZE OF MINE. LITTLE DID I KNOW
THEN AT THE AGE OF 8 THAT GOD ALSO
GAVE HIM THE BIGGEST AND KINDEST HEART.
WE IMMEDIATELY BECAME BEST FRIENDS GOING THRU LITTLE LEAGUE,CADDYING EVERY DAY AT THE OAKLEY COUNTRY CLUB IN WATERTOWN,
PLAYING BASKETBALL SOMEWHERE OR AS
WE CALLED IT BACK THEN JUST SITTING
ON THE WALL WATCHING THE CARS DRIVE
UP AND DOWN MOUNT AUBURN STREET.JUST BEING TOGETHER WITH
OTHER CHILDHOOD FRIENDS( HIS BROTHER (BUDDY),WELSH,SULLY,PHILIP)OR PLAYING BASKETBALL IN OLEARYS
DRIVEWAY,EVERYDAY WAS GREAT.
I REMEMBER WHEN DAVE WENT OFF TO TEXAS TO GO TO COLLEGE AND HIS MEETING AND FALLING IN LOVE WITH MARY AND DAVE TELLING ME HOW HE WAS GOING TO BE THE BEST HUSBAND AND FATHER THERE EVER WAS AND HE MOST CERTAINLY KEPT HIS WORD.
WHEN YOU LOSE SUCH A GOOD FRIEND AS DAVE YOU ARE REMINDED THAT LIFE IS TRULY A GIFT FROM GOD
AND THAT SOMEDAY THAT GIFT IS RETURNED TO GOD. THIS PAST WEEK HAS
BEEN PARTICULARLY DIFFICULT FOR ME
IN THAT A FEW DAYS BEFORE DAVE'S PASSING ANOTHER CLOSE FRIEND OF MINE WHO WAS ALSO ADMIRED AND LOVED
BY ALL HIS FRIENDS PASSED AWAY UNEXPECTEDLY.
MAY GOD KEEP YOU STRONG
WITH LOVE ALWAYS
PAUL, LARRY AND MRS.B.

David Ryan was one of the founders of not just Braintree Youth Soccer, but Braintree Youth Basketball. Tireless, classy, selfless and most generous of his time and gifts he conveyed to those blessed to have made his acquaintence, we have all lost a friend of Braintree youth. May David Rest in Peace. A true gentleman, nice guy and a friend who will be dearly missed.

To the Ryan family,
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of "Mr. Ryan".
Mr. Ryan has long been a dear, sweet friend to my family.
I remember having 2 broken legs in the hospital when I was 7 years old. The Celtics were my life. One day, while I was lying in my hospital bed, in walked Mr. Ryan. He was always so comforting. He brought me autographed pictures of all the Celtics (including Larry Bird). Not only that, when I was able to walk again 4 months later, he sent me floor seats to Game 1 of the 1984 NBA Finals at the Garden.
He would light up Daugherty Gym with his presence. Kids flocked to Mr. Ryan. He coached my youngest brother's BYB team even though he did not have a child on the team. He was a teacher, a role-model and a friend to every kid who played BYB in the 80's/90's.
I will miss him and I am blessed for knowing him.

Mary, scott & Erin, I was totally devastated to hear the news of Dave's passing. I moved to NH and have been out of touch with all that has happened in Braintree over the past year.
Dave is one of my all time favorite people. He was the most genuine, generous person that I had the pleasure of calling a friend.
There are so many wonderful memories that I could share examplifying his wonderful personality and graciousness. He was especially kind to both of my children. and called each of them his "little Honeys". I recall a time he allowed me to use his apt in NYC and made sure that the doorman knew my name and assisted in parking my car to assure a "good spot".
His concern for his family and his employees was what always impressed me and he was also one of the very best basketball players I ever had the pleasure of playing with and competing against.
I have the deepest, most profound respect for Dave and will forever miss him.
My condolences to you all for your loss and I will continue to pray for his soul.
