To the Frank Family,
On behalf of the Ball family, I want to extend our deepest sympathies. Mr. Frank was a wonderful friend to my parents and a much beloved teacher. I have such fond memories of Mr. Frank as he was my first male teacher after having attended St. Mary's Grammar School. He was both my homeroom and Civic teacher. I can still see him in his herring bone jacket with the suede arm patches. Also, least I ever forget, returning to his homeroom on Friday afternoon, November 22, 1963. Knowing I was returning to Mr. Frank's homeroom somehow gave me a certain sense of calm and order in a crazy world.
I know that both my mom and dad thought of him as a great friend and always enjoyed getting together with Sally and Freeman.
I hadn't seen Mr. Frank for a long while and he was kind enough to attend my father's wake in 2000. It was great to see him and he made be laugh. After he said his condolences he said, "OK, Maureen, now name the three branches of government? It was so typical of Mr. Frank. He always brought light into the lives he touched.
Fondly,
Maureen Ball DeVivo & the Family of Bill Ball

Freeman was an outstanding teacher who encouraged all his students to strive for greater heights. Like any great coach, he brought out the best in us and taught us about life. His sense of humor and boundless energy in the classroom are legendary. We were fortunate to have had Freeman in Melrose for 32 years. I was a member of the class of '67.

He was an outstanding teacher and mentor, one who wouldn't let us students take the easy way out and was always there rooting for us, whatever our choices. From a member of MHS class of 1967.

To the family of Freeman Frank: please know how sad I am that Mr. Frank has passed on...but grateful for having known him during my years as one of his appreciative students at Melrose High in the mid-'60's. He truly loved being a teacher, I believe, and students responded positively to his teaching and guidance skills. I sent him an email a couple of years ago, letting him know how much I enjoyed having him for a teacher, and he responded that he was so pleased...I am so glad that I could convey my appreciation to him. Please accept my condolences, and I am sure that his wonderful soul is still with you and you can take comfort in all the good he did on this earth. Debbie Hansen Burke, Killington, Vermont

I became a debate coach because of Freeman. My coaching style, my interaction with my debaters, my love of the activity -- all came from this wonderful man. More than anyone else in my life, Freeman shaped me and inspired me and made me who I am today.
I'm no longer coaching, but when I advise students at UC Berkeley, I can still feel Freeman's touch and influence in the way I reach out to my students.

To the Family of Freeman Frank: As members of the Class of 1967 have just celebrated our 40th reunion, we are saddened to learn of his passing. He held our class in a very special place, and we felt the same way about him. He was a very intelligent, energetic, enthusiastic individual who had a way of finding something good in every one of his students. He has always remained in the forefront of our memories of high school days, and will be forever in our hearts. Our condolences go out to you, His Family, for your tremendous loss. He was truly a wonderful teacher ! Sincerely, The Class of 1967

Mr. Frank was a heck of a teacher and knew how to keep his students interests. He was my Civic's teacher at Melrose High School in 1960. I will never forget him, nor will many of my former classmates. May God Bless & keep you.

We loved him dearly since our young and foolish days at Boston University. We admired his long and arduous battle with his never ending illnesses. We loved you and will never forget you, Freeman.

Mr Frank was one of (everyone's) favorite instructors when I was at MHS in the mid-to-late 60's. He also happened to be my homeroom monitor. I remember him as buoyant and cheerful and endlessly supportive of all us kids (even as we walked out of classes to protest the school's banning of radios during the '67 Impossible Dream Red Sox games).
He touched many lives and has stayed in many hearts for so many years.
My profound sympathy for your loss.

Many fond memories from the day he found himself in the "big city" to more recent times. Always grateful for his arranging the get-togethers with the Avvies, etc. I miss him even now.
