Dear Doherty Family,
I have such beautiful recollections of teaching Jason at Georges Vanier School in Bramalea. The other day I came across the small framed teacher print that Jason had given me and I wondered how he was doing. Just today, I heard from Mark Broderick, that Jason had passed away a few years ago. I am so sorry to hear about his loss. He was such a sweet gentle spirit and left his mark on my heart. May the beautiful memories you shared with him, continue to bring you peace. Thinking of you.
With deepest condolences,
Anne Schlarp

JD...I never had the pleasure of meeting "U", though during the past few months I've gotten to know of "U".
The imprint that you've left on your families life is obvious, one in particular.
The Love this person has for you is truly a gift from God. The sadness shows whenever you are remembered.
I would have liked to have met you,
if only just to shake your hand.
I know that "U" are deeply missed.
JD, watch over the "SPECIAL ONE"
"U" are needed!!!!!!

Dear Mr.& Mrs. Doherty,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Jason was a dear old friend of mine. He was the first real friend I had when I first moved to town back in the 2nd grade, at Thorpe School. We remained friends through the years until I moved away the begining of high school. I was shocked and very sad to hear of his passing. I have thought of him so much over the years remembering his kindness to me as "the new kid" . He was so full of laughter and had the greatest smile! Although I hadnt seen him in many years, he was never far from my mind. He will remain in my thoughts and memories forever!
God bless you JD you were an amazing person !!! May you rest in peace !

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Doherty and Cheri,
My heart goes out to you. I just found this site and was touched by all of the entries.
All of my childhood memories of growing up on our street include J.D.. He was always full of fun ideas in every season. I especially remember the snow ball fights, catching snakes, and the battles between my cat and his dog. He'll always be a part of my childhood and I will always remember him fondly. I wish everyone could grow up with a friend and neighbor like J.D..
Sincerely,
Julie Douglas Krithivas

There's one story that epitomizes Jason. At work, a vendor had walked in and looked distressed. He told JD that his daughter's car had broken down a few miles down the street. JD, without hesitation, offered to drive down there after his shift and see what he could do. Low and behold, he got the car running. He took the time out of his life to help this man who he barely knew and expected nothing in return. That was the JD I knew. I worked with JD for a good year, and it was one filled with many times I wont soon forget. Sure, he had his struggles, as we all do, but the one thing that sticks out about him is the genuine care he showed for other people. Even in the dark times, he was ALWAYS concerned with others' welfare and that is a testament to the type of person that he was. I'll miss him.

My deepest sympathies for your loss. I knew JD going all the way back to Thorpe School, which is when I knew him best. The one thing that will stay with me about JD was that he was always the most dynamic personality in the room. He will be missed.

Is there really a way to define despair? heartaching emptiness? total disbelief? A complete disruption in body, heart and soul.
An inability to digest this as true reality.
How deep is this pain so surrounded by sadness. Will it really ever lift away from me.
I cannot imaging grieving much harder and I see no end in sight. Looking at "Time" as a healing factor, praying for strength and acceptance.
I loved JD like I cannot explain. He was always so, so, special to me. His trust in me was obvious. I cannot imagine life without him. Seriously.
How does one really cope here?
His laugh was intense, His smile lit up the room. His sense of humor; outstanding. His knowledge of so many skills. "Like he would say, "Jack of all Trades, Master of None"!
But, you know what - His helpfulness. His helpfulness anytime, anywhere, for anyone. So many acts of kindness I've seen. He honestly had a "HEART OF GOLD". I do hope it is as some say, (you know) that he'll still really be around us. It's such a mystery. A mystery that no one is ever prepared for.
I'm going to miss him TOO MUCH.
LOVE TO MARGIE, DAN, CHERI, JOHN, DANIEL, SARAH, AND LITTLE NANNY MARIE.

God looked around His Garden & found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth & saw your tired face.
He put His Arms around you, & lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful. He always takes the BEST.
He saw the road was getting rough & the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And he wispered "peace be thine".
It broke our hearts to lose YOU
But you didn't go alone.
For parts of US went with you-
The day God Called YOU Home!

To JD's friends and family. I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked at the news but have many fond memories of the prankster we all knew and loved. He was a good friend of mine thru high school and he would never hesitate to do anything for a laugh. I remember him throwing frog legs into my hair in science class during dissection, him jumping on the hood of my car until it collapsed, many nights at the res, folly hill, there are just so many good times to remember with him. He always cracked me up with his hilarious sense of humor and he will truly be missed. Funny, just last week I was looking for him on myspace, etc. I'm sorry I was too late. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I'll miss ya buddy. I know you will be looking down on all of us.
I apologize for not being able to make it to the wake/funeral. I found out today and I am on vacation in New Orleans.
Love,

Being a Real Estate professional and reviewing the Salem News daily, this is the last story one would expect to come across. This is something that comes as a surprise with JD being so young and full of life.
I first met JD in the fifth grade but did not know him very well at all. JD's close friends are really good people so that would easily make him a good person. I see an entry below from John Moore. I'm sure the family will hear from Bill Tragakis, Brandon Simpson and Kenny Sterling at some point. All good people.
JD clearly was a good man and the people who have known him best will certainly miss him.
God Bless,
Brian

J.D.,
You were a one-of-a kind.
Thanks for all the laughs.
No one who knew you will ever forget your infectious laugh and how you loved to see everybody around you being happy and having fun.
When you graduated from high school in 1989 (DHS/afu), you received the largest ovation of anyone who walked across the stage - everyone loved you, no matter what little clique they happened to be in at the time. You were not the class valedictorian but you treated everyone with love and respect and I hope you felt the love and respect come back to you. You had a way of making everyone laugh with you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family for their tremendous loss. This world will greatly miss your smiles and laughter.
I pray that you are at peace and that you will find a way to bring us some smiles and laughter in the years to come.
Rest peacefully, J.D. You will not be forgotten.

I AM NOT THERE ~ Hopi Indian prayer
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
