The instant I met him, I felt as though I had met an uncle that I never knew I had.
He was a mensch, a macher, and one of the finest men I have ever known.
My guys and I had the great privilege of doing the music for his 50th wedding anniversary party to celebrate his long-lived marriage to his lovely Bibby.
(I'm reminded of this because we're scheduled to play Mayor Menino's Golden Anniversary luncheon for Bostonians who have been married 50 years or more, day after tomorrow. This will be the 15th year or so that we've done it, and we got that privilege initially because Mel hired us for it the first time.)
Cordially,

Mel was one of the true treasures of this city. He had a heart of gold, an unparalleled sense of humor and a warmth about him that emanated throughout any room he entered. He was the epitomy of what a public servant is all about and a role model to young and old alike. This city was extremely fortunate to have such a gift. He will forever be missed.
