I was a substitute Spanish teacher at Byron Bergen, and I remember Matt well. He was a wonderful individual.
Please accept my family's warmest wishes for you all.

Matt was a great person to be around. I am his neighbor to this day. I remember always seeing him in the halls. He was a great person. I remember hearing him and his brother Sean on their four wheelers. I was sad for seeing him go and I saw the look on Matthew's friends and family members as they picked up his coffin and walked to the car. I could see the sorrow and I want to let his parents and friends know that I always cared for him and others. It's such a shame to see you go Matt and I will miss you. You will always be a part in my life. Best wishes to his family. Glad to be a neighbor with you guys.

I will keep all surviving of Matt in my thoughts and prayers. He was a terrific kid to see around the halls, fun guy to talk to. This a terrible thing to have to go through, but it helps the rest of us come to realize how dear our lives really are and how much we must cherish them. I wish all the best in the next coming months, years, and so forth to his family. It's another heartbreak for the people connected to Byron-Bergen students. Remember to love all and keep your loved ones closest in times like these.

Our hearts are with you at this time of loss.. You are an incredibly loving family and Matthew was such a strong, courageous young man. He will be missed by so many but his heart and spirit will go on.. May peace be with you all at this time of sorrow and the joyeous memories you have help carry you through this time.
We leave you with this poem...
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our hearts are broken for your family.
Our family memory is of Sean and Matthew riding 4 wheelers with our son Connor Stefaniak. The 3 boys rode to our home in Bergen. When Matthew saw our son Taylor's 1972 Buick Skylark, in the backyard, he asked Connor if he could drive it.
Connor told him no, but he would start it up for him. We continue to pray for your family and ask for strength at this time of sorrow.
