Joseph Burke Obituary

BURKE - Joseph Francis Age 67, beloved husband of Marlene (Studley) Burke; dear father of Joseph and Yvonne; grandfather of Corey; loving brother of three sisters and two brothers and many nieces and nephews, peacefully passed away on October 16, 2008. Joe was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, where he attended St. Josephs Prep School on a scholarship and subsequently attended the University of Buffalo. He moved to Cincinnati, OH in 1970 where he served as New York Lifes youngest General Manager. Thereafter, he received many national designations, including becoming one of the countrys youngest Chartered Life Underwriters and a Registered Financial Planner. It was also in Cincinnati where Joe met Marlene, and their ambitions led Joe to move to Florida and seek a more independent business path. Joe was a long-standing member of the National Registers Whos Who in Executives and Professionals and an Honorable Commissioned Kentucky Colonel. He was also past president of the Irish Sertoma Club of Clearwater Beach. Proud of his Irish heritage, Joe will most assuredly be remembered for his exuberant celebration of many a St. Patricks Day. Being one of the original Marketing Companies representing Life USA/Allianz, a life insurance/annuity company, Joe set his path on greatness. Later becoming a member of the Board of Marketing Directors for LifeUSA/Allianz, Burke & Associates, continued to climb and accumulate top honors for contributing to LifeUSA/Allianzs growth, development and profitability. Joe continued his success with Forethought Financial Group Annuity Division and earned a seat on Forethoughts initial Advisory Board. Just as with Allianz, Burke & Associates Marketing Company ascended to the pinnacle of success with Forethought. In fact, on the day that Joe passed away, Burke Marketing became their #1 producer. Joe would have been exceptionally proud of this accomplishment. Those who knew Joe were touched by his direct, to the point, giving ways. He led with his heart where generosity always followed. If Joe were here, he would surely encourage each of us to live life to the fullest, believe in our dreams, and most of all believe in ourselves. A Memorial and Mass will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at 1:00 PM at Saint Catherines Catholic Church, 1955 South Belcher Road in Clearwater (727-536-5779). A subsequent Memorial Mass will be held in Buffalo, NY on a later date. Immediately following the local service, there will be a gathering of friends and associates at the Old New York New York, 18573 US Highway 19 North, Clearwater, Florida (727-539-7441). For those who cannot make the service or would just like to share stories about Joe, you can go to Making Everlasting Memories at www.mem.com, look up Joseph Francis Burke (July 25, 1941) and sign the online guest book. As Joe had been the doting master of 3 lively Labradors: Zeno, Ziggy, Zorro and a new addition, named K.C., anyone wishing to donate to Joes favorite charity may contact the Humane Society of North Pinellas at 3040 State Road 590, Clearwater, Florida (727-797-7722). We dearly miss you, Joe! Moss Feaster/Belcher FUNERAL HOME, 727-562-2070.

Joe it is very easy to understand why friends and family love you and miss you so much. It isn't your great success in business, although that probably helped shape your personality, it was your spirit, your love of life and the people in it.
Many years ago, 40+, I knew you for a short time. I remember your sweetness and caring ways. I remember and treasure that time. If only there were two lives that each of us could live.
Reading and re-reading all the messages that family and friends wrote, it would be wonderful if I could hear more about Joe's life Florida.
If anyone reads this that knew him, I'm on face book.

GOOD MORNING AND THANK YOU FOR COMING. I'M SURE YOU ALL KNOW ME I'M JOE'S SISTER MARY LOU. THERE IS PROBABLY NOT ONE PERSON IN THIS CHURCH THAT DOES NOT HAVE A STORY ABOUT JOE BURKE! I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT JOE'S MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS HOWEVER, I WANT TO BE BRIEF AND JUST TOUCH ON WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN I THINK ABOUT JOE. "DON'T DOUBLE CROSS YOUR OWN DREAMS" JOE CAME FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS. AT 15 YEARS OLD HE WORKED AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD HARDWARE STORE. WHILE MOST OF HIS SCHOOL CHUMS WERE PLAYING BASKETBALL AT ST GERARD'S JOE WAS HARD AT WORK. IT WAS NOT A BIG PAYING JOB BUT HE WANTED TO LIGHTEN HIS MOTHER'S HEAVY FINANCIAL BURDEN. AT ONLY 15 HE HAD A POWERFUL WORK ETHIC, LOTS OF DREAMS AND WAS ALREADY SETTING THE STAGE FOR HIS VERY VERY SUCCESSFUL FUTURE. ONE OF HIS FAVORITE QUOTES WAS "A LITTLE BIT OF SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN A WHOLE LOT OF NOTHING" OH SO VERY TRUE! I NEVER HEARD HIM COMPLAIN , NOT ONCE. ANOTHER ONE OF JOE'S GREATEST ATTRIBUTES WAS HIS HUGE GENEROUS HEART. HE WAS A "GIVER" HE GAVE TO HIS FAMILY HE GAVE TO HIS FRIENDS AND YES HE EVEN GAVE TO COMPLETE STRANGERS. HE KNEW WHAT IS WAS LIKE TO BE LESS FORTUNATE THAN OTHERS. ON ONE OF HIS MANY VISITS TO OUR OLD HOUSE ON ERICSON AVE JOE NOTICED SOME YOUNG BLACK CHILDREN PLAYING IN THE STREET, THOSE CHILDREN HAD A BASKETBALL HOWEVER, THEY DID NOT HAVE THE BASKETBALL HOOP TO COMPLETE THEIR GAME. THE NEXT DAY THEIR DREAM CAME TRUE! A NEW BEAUTIFUL BASKETBALL HOOP WAS NOW ON ERICSON AVE FOR THOSE CHILDREN TO ENJOY. JOE MADE THEIR DREAM COME TRUE! HE JUST DID'NT OPEN UP HIS WALLET HE OPENED UP HIS HEART. BY NOW WE HAVE LEARNED A PAINFUL LESSON, HOW WERE WE TO KNOW THAT CONVERSATION OR THAT VISIT WAS GOING TO BE HIS LAST? JOE ALWAYS ENDED HIS CONVERSATION WITH I LOVE YOU AND HE PASSIONATLY EXPRESSED HIS LOVE FOR EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. SO JOE WITH A BOOM BOOM BOOM A CHOP CHOP CHOP AND A GOOD OLD "HI I'M JOE BURKE HOW DO YOU LIKE ME SO FAR?" YES JOE WE LOVE YOU TOO! UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

To Joe
My next door neighbor and classmate at St. Gerard's. Although we had lost touch my memories of Joe were fond ones. He and his family were good and gracious neighbors and they were always so good to our Mom. My thoughts and prayers accompany you on your journey.

I will miss your smiling face and friendly hugs at the Old New York, New York. I will miss your kidding me about your being a year younger than I. I am thankful for your help in getting my membership in the Kentucky Colonels. Most of all, I will miss your friendliness and kindness for the last seventeen years at the Old New York, New York. The Kentucky Derby will always be a special day for me to honor you in my heart. You will be sadly missed by all of us at the Old New York, New York "family."

Joe, I love you, and will miss you greatly, seeing your smiling face, and ambitious drive, When I would drive from Orlando to meet you at the Old New York New York you would always greet me with "Hows my Boy", and a hug. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to call you my friend and business partner. You have touched many lifes with your heart. I will always remember our times with fondness, and a smile.

You are the Best
