Dad,

I cannot believe it's been a year that you've been gone. What a bittersweet year it has been. I just wish I could see the smile on your face with all of your grandchildren in your arms. There was a time when we weren't sure there would be any. Now you have four. Maybe this was the plan, for you to be able to see them all the time and be there to watch over them. As for Craig and I, you set an amazing example of what it means to be a father and it is something we both strive to live up to. We were so lucky to have you for the time we did, even though it didn't feel nearly long enough. We love you and miss you so much. See you in my dreams.

Love,
Joel

My dear friend Joel,
I can't believe today you have been apart from us for 1 year! I will never forget that dreadful phone call I received from Joel Jr at approximately 8:00 p.m. informing me what had happened! I can still remember our conversation word for word. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about you, but today even more so than any other day. It still just doesn't seem fair. You had so much to look forward too and so did all of us that were a part of your life. You have 2 more beautiful grandchildren that will only know their Grandpa from pictures, but with the stories their mommies and daddies will tell them will love you forever. You are sadly missed and will forever stay in my heart. I love you and miss you my dear friend!!!

Joel,

My final closure came today as my son and I traveled to Buffalo to "clean out" the storage area and your office. It really was not something I was looking forward to doing, but I knew it had to be done. Joel Jr was an absolute sweetheart and helped us from start to finish. The weather was horendous and we had to drive a 26' truck along with the new van we had just got you back to Syracuse. We drove most of the way home doing 30 mph. I was scared to death. At one point I could not see the road in front of me and made it through due to your guidance. I could feel your precense in the van with me, I could hear you telling me "just relax, go slow, you will get through this - it's only a blizzard - then I heard your laugh! You told me you would get Rob and myself home safe. Well, you did and I couldn't be more greatful. By the time I got in my driveway I broke down in tears and thanked you for getting us home safe. I also realized that I have finally woken from my nightmare, and that you are not coming back ~ but I know from the experience I just had, that you will always be here with me. I miss you :-(

Joel was the consiment joker and many times helped me thru my grumpiness with his attitude and ability to not let every little
molehill turn into a mountain. During one of my mountain days... He once said, "expecting life to treat you fairly because you are a good person is a lot like expecting the bull not to attack you because you are a vegetarian." Regardless...
It's not fair my friend. Peace.

What a shock to hear of Joel's passing. I am saddened by the thought of loosing a former peer (B&H) and friend. My fondest memories are of Chicago at Neocon. The fun 10 hour ride with silly glasses, country vs rock radio stations and never ending laughter. Joel was an honest, hardworking, fun to be around guy with a surprisingly good singing voice. Always a true gentleman. I hope heaven lit off fireworks as you crossed the boarder. You will be sadly missed by all the people you touched. My prayers are with you all.

My deepest condolences to all of Joel's family. I had the great pleasure of working with Joel several years ago and again on occasion throughout the last few years. It was always a pick-me up to hear from him, and as everyone else has said, his laugh was infectious. One of the most kind hearted and truly honest people I've had the luck to know. I will NEVER forget our trips to Neocon, all of us packed in Foster's van and the GREAT laughs we shared. Memories I will cherish forever. I am truely shocked and saddened by Joel's passing, and will miss him greatly. He will be in my prayer's, and I know he's in God's hands. God bless you and keep you forever.

Joel Jr., Craig Donna and the rest of Joel's family ~ It has been to hard for me to have to leave you a guest book entry but I feel that I need to.
I first met Joel when I was 18 and working at Hoelscher's. He was always friendly, smiling and laughed at just about anything ~ we all know that was Joel!!! When he came to work WITH us in January 2003, he hadn't changed a bit ~ with the exception of his grey hair! He was still the same happy Joel I had always known. He was great to work with and I got to know him so much better. You were all so important to him and he spoke of you all constantly. I'll never forget the day he came to the office and told me he was going to be a Grandpa. He was estatic. We shared many stories of his grand daughter and our 2 grandchildren. We could relate to the new things Adreanna was doing as our grand daughter is just a couple of months older than her. I asked him recently when he was going to "have another" and he told me he hoped it would be soon and that he would have lots more.
Being a Grandpa meant everything to him and it saddens me to know that he will not see his new Grand Child.
Being a Yankee fan he would tease us for being Red Sox fans all the time. It was great that I could get him back not only once but twice on our Red Sox victories. He was one of the true Yankee fans that never rubbed it in about the 26 World Series compared to our (I don't want to say). He would say the same to me as he did with office furniture - it's only baseball!!!
Joel was a huge dog lover and he was heartbroken when he had to put his dog to sleep. I could see his heart was broken. When he would come into the office he always went over to the dog treat jar and gave all 3 of my dogs a treat. They knew as soon as he walked through the door he was going to give them treats. Sandi, who just turned 17 was always his favorite. She is not doing well and unfortunatley will have to join Joel soon. When she does, I know that Joel will be the first to greet her with a doggy treat in hand.
I miss Joel so much and know you do to. I have so many wonderful memories of him that I will cherish forever and I'm sure you do too. These memories get me through each day and I am so greatful that I have them.
Joel was a great person that I will never forget.

Brother Joel, Since your passing, your voice, your laugh your smile is radiant, inspiring and everlasting. As we spend another Thanksgiving in Buffalo I am mindful of you.The last 15 years as your friend and brother in law has been a special blessing. I so admired your warmth and acceptance of all people. The fatherhood you portrayed even when Joel and Craig were young men seemed to continue to grow. The way you conducted yourself was so consistent. The ultimate joy was your tone and spirits when we talked about Adreanna. We were able to share so many wonderful experiences from Bills games, hockey games,Holidays, and the tailgaiting ,wow, officialy made me an honorary Buffalonian. The time we had at spring training this past year was our last time together and it will forever be remembered with gratitude. Your "Ma",Donna and entire family which includes me will always keep you in our hearts. I can always know that my life had a 15 year window of YOU,what a gift that I always cherrish.May Christ keep you and His love live through us with your memory.AWWWKAAY !!

I love you Grandpa Schreck, and I know you love me, too.

Dad,

It's almost Thanksgiving. It's the time of year to give thanks for everything that we have. Most of all I am thankful for the many years of having you as a father and the many wonderful memories I will never forget. I know you will always be with us and watching over us to guide us through the good times and the bad times. Not only in her heart will Adrianna know how much you love her, but by the big smile on your face in every picture of you holding her. Rest in peace Dad. We love you very much.
Love,
Craig

To the family of Joel,
I felt compelled to look up information on Joel, nobody looking at this knows who I am I'm sure. My name is Jake and I'm an admissions advisor at the school that Joel recently started attending. I remember first talking to Joel and just knew right away that I had made contact with someone special. Joel was very intent on getting his education. I kept in contact with Joel more than my other students. I used to call him just to talk, usually about football. He was just easy to talk to and you always felt as if he cared. I left for vacation the day before Joel passed. I just got back today and had a voicemail telling me what had happened. I was shocked. Sometimes you just wonder why things like this happen, but you have to believe there is a reason and his purpose is to serve in a better place. Either way, I wish I would have had a chance to know Joel better, he was the type of person you just know you want around. My wishes and prayers are with his whole family and all of his friends. He definitely will be missed.

I haven't seen Joel in over five years now, but I was shocked by the news of his passing. We worked together in the past, and in addition to being very professional, Joel cared deeply about his customers. Joel was always fun to be around, and through his jokes and laughter it was easy to see that he enjoyed life. My deepest sympathies go out to Donna and his family in this difficult time...you will be in my prayers.

Joel Schreck Jr.

November 16, 2007

Dad,

It's time to let you be at peace in death as you were in life. You lived a happy life that was most definitley too short, but will live on in a legacy of kindness, warmth, caring, humor and love through your entire family and all your friends. Your grandchildren will know you well through all the stories they will hear their whole lives. I know you are with all of us in spirit and will help guide us though all of the hard times and celebrate with us in all of the good times. We will see you again, but not soon, because we will live long happy lives and make you proud.

On a personal note, you truly were an inspiration to me and I will do my best to be like you, a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. I will carry on your name and hopefully your smile and try to inspire people with a personality like yours. I love you and miss you and will think of you every day.

Love,
Joel

I was truly saddened by Joel Sr.'s passing. Hearing the wonderful stories and nice memories Sunda had of him always made me smile.
During the little time I was able to spend with him, it was easy to tell just how genuine and how loved he was by all of his family and friends.
I hold all of you in my prayers and know that Joel is definitely one of the people the Lord has brought up to his Kingdom to be at rest and in eternal happiness.

I have known Joel for about 6yrs. Joel was a wonderful man that was always willing to do what it took as a sales rep but that isn't what made him a great man. His sparkling and upbeat personality are what set him apart. I read earlier that someone commented about his laugh, it's true, Joel had a genuine laugh and was always ready to use it. My heart goes out to his entire family. This is one business associate/friend that I will miss him immensely. Joel, I will also miss your jokes. You left us too soon! Rest easy my friend.

Joel is a great man! He always went out of his way to meet with me and help me with any pending projects. He is the best furniture rep I have ever come across! I will miss him greatly. He was a great person to be around. I hope he is sitting at a slot machine somewhere and winning his fortune!!
My deepest sympathy goes out to Donna and his family.

Dear Donna and the Schreck Family,
We are still stunned since hearing of Joel's passing. It was simply too soon for such a wonderful man. We both worked with Joel and Donna some 25-30 years ago at Hoelscher's. We were so young and what fun we all had! Those are times we will never, ever forget. Joel never had a bad thing to say about anyone. Oh, and his laugh, quite contagious. He and Donna had such a strong bond for so very long. Our hearts are breaking for you Donna. We will keep you and Joel's family in our thoughts and prayers. We love you Donna. To Joel's Family and Donna
My family and I considered Joel a business partner and a trusted friend. He was always ready and willing to do whatever was needed. We always found time on his office visits to compare the "grandbabies" recent pictures. He sure loved a little girl named Adrianna! Joel will be missed. A gentleman in all ways. Our thoughts and prayers to his family.

I first met Joel when he was selling furniture down on Oak Street. I briefly worked at the same company. Both of us had many jobs since, but we kept in touch. He was a real friend to me, like the big brother I never had, through some very tough times. Though we hadn't seen eachother in years, it was alway comforting to know he was only a phone call or email away. He leaves an enormous legacy with all the lives he touched and friends he has made.

My heart goes out to Donna and the family of Joel. He was a truly wonderful, kind and caring guy. I am going to miss him in business and also as a good friend. When I started Office by Design, even though I am a small business, he was there for me always. We would have Mars/Venus conversations over the hand sketched, out of scale, "useable space" drawings I would send him to be turned into professional office spaces! Joel gave me my mantra "it is only office furniture" when I would get stressed. That I will always keep with me! He worked hard, took the time to enjoy life and loved his family very much. Joel will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during the days ahead. Remember the good times and yes the laugh that we all remember and loved!!

A friend first (30 years) and a business associate second (5 years). I don't beleive an individual exists who didn't like Joel. Joel brought the fun back in my work. Travelling together and overnights, like to Chicago, were a riot. We were like Mutt and Jeff. But, that's what made it fun. We shared family stories and the joy of being a grandfather.
