Deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones. The first time I met Joe I was working for The Belt Railway Company. The first day he started for the belt the foreman said thay hired my brother Joe. I do have a brother Joe but he was not in the U.S.A. at the time. We do share the same name. My grandfather took the w out when he came to the U.S. I left the belt 21 years ago to work for the Union Pacific RR. I will be retiring in a few weeks. I will never forget Joe and the good times we had on the railroad back in the day.

Even though I haven"t seen Joe in many years, my memories of him as a youngster growing up and baby sitting for him and several of his brothers and sisters are warm. I guess part of Joe's legacy is the memories he left us with. Thankfully, they linger on.

I'd like to express my heartfelt condolences to Joe's family and friends.
Many years ago, I was introduced to Joe by his brother Jim. The three of us worked together at the Belt Railway Co. of Chicago. Joe was always cordial and professional. But, my fondest memories are of the many Sunday afternoons spent watching our beloved Bears and of playing horseshoes afterward at Jim's house. That's when his quiet demeanor took a back seat to the fun loving side of his personality along with Jim, John,Gus and the rest of the family. Those are the times that I'll cherish the most.
And when the going got tough due to bouts with his illness, he was the epitome of courage and perseverance. Time after time Joe returned with renewed hope and an awesome attitude.
He was truly an inspiration to me.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

My heartfelt condolences to Joe's family and friends. I've known Joe for many years, thanks to an introduction from his brother Jim. All three of us worked together on the Belt railway. Joe was always the epitome of class and professionalism on the job. But, my fondest memories of Joe were away from work. We spent quite a few Sunday afternoons watching our beloved Bears and playing horseshoes afterwards at Jim's house. That's when Joe was at ease and his awesome personality and fun demeanor came through. He was a delight to be around just like with Jim, John, Gus and the rest of the family. I'll always cherish those memories. I'm very fortunate to have made Joe's acquaintance because he displayed great courage and perseverance when times got tough. Time after time, when his health failed, he beat the odds and came back with a great attitude. He was a true inspiration to me.
Sincerely,
Bob Ward
