MICHAEL GAINER Obituary

Michael J. Gainer, Ph.D., 53, clinical psychologist, former Program Director at Lincoln Park Hospital's Department of Psychiatry and the Center for Integrated Therapy, passed away unexpectedly May 1, 2011. A native of Latrobe, PA, Dr. Gainer earned his B.A. in Philosophy at St. Vincent College in Latrobe and his M.A. in Psychology and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. A true bon vivant, he was a gifted musician who felt a strong connection to the traditional roots music of West Virginia. Devoted father of Melanie, Dylan, and Claire Gainer; loving son of Julia Scarcelli Gainer and Michael K. Gainer; brother of Kathryn Gainer Baughman, and Thomas, John, Mary, Cynthia, Suzanne, and Daniel Gainer; uncle of 16, great-uncle of four. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gainer children may be made to: "Melanie, Dylan and Claire Gainer" c/o Cremation Society of Illinois, 736 W. Addison, Chicago, IL, 60613. Memorial services Thursday, May 19, 4 p.m. at Methodist Hospital Auditorium, 5025 N. Paulina and also in Tanner, WV, at the ancestral home of the Gainer family, on Saturday, May 21.
