LeROY MEYER Obituary

LeRoy D. Meyer, age 82, May 3, 2011, beloved husband of Lois, nee Heinz, for 59 years; loving father of Susan Widner (Michael) and James (JJ) Meyer; cherished grandfather and "best friend" of Jacob Widner; stepgrandfather of Jesse and Valerie Bu; brother of Duane, Marilyn Harken and the late Lorraine Schultz. LeRoy attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a BS and a Master's in Physical Therapy. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and the first male physical therapist commissioned as an officer. After his military service he joined The Institute of Physical Medicine in Peoria, IL as a therapist. He transitioned to business with American Hospital Supply Corporation in Chicago selling rehabilitation equipment. LeRoy spent the next 24 years with Sears managing their home health care specialty products catalogue. Following his retirement, he returned to his true passion of helping others by working part time as a physical therapist. Ever a kind man and never a complainer, he met the challenges of aging with determination. We will always admire his courage and his brave heart. A memorial service will be held on May 14, 2011, at 11 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established at Ronald McDonald House, 622 West Deming Place Chicago, IL 60614 Attn: Jamie Haberkorn (312) 228-9442; and Northeast Illinois Council, Boy Scouts of America, 2745 Skokie Valley Highway, Highland Park, IL 60035.
